Egosoft have officially announced their latest space sim X4: Foundations is going to launch on November 30th, although the status of the Linux build isn't fully confirmed.

When asked about it, they simply told us "The plan is to launch the Linux Beta at release, but we have to see if that will work out.".

The announcement was accompanied by their new trailer:

They also released a longer gameplay trailer at the same time, which is an interesting way to do it I suppose. It's a game I definitely want to try out, as it does sound quite impressive. The ability to simply get out of your ship, walk around and climb aboard another ship and continue exploring sounds fun.

Egosoft are claiming it to be the "most dynamic X universe ever", with other races in the game free to build and expand, with a lot of the same options as players which should be interesting. It will offer multiple starting points with different characters, each with their own set of relationships, technology, ships and so on too.

The only current store they've confirmed is Steam. If they do manage to get a Linux build out, we will take a look for sure.

X3: Reunion, X3: Terran Conflict and X3: Albion in that order though personally X3:R is still the best one followed by Albion Prelude.

X£:r has the Extended mod on steam too which gives you extended starts ect

Egosoft are kind of the great specialist of the surprise ninja smoke bomb. So I'm surprised as well that X4 will come so soon after their announcement but on the other hand they probably have been working on it since X-Rebirth released and was massively paned for all kinds of departures.

Lots of people liked the new direction good ideas , and dislike a lot of things (like being stuck on a single ship) .

I didn't play it myself but I have a friend who enjoys those titles and Rebirth was not a "divisive" sequel much more a "Hey I like the new things you're trying to do , but I hate that you want to take away the old toys in exchange."

TL : DR with the feedback on X-Rebirth being less than stellar they probably have been hammerin' this new game since December 2013 .. soo it's not that soon actually ;)

Quoting: GuestToo bad the system requirements are pretty steep.... It requires a supercomputer to run. A Haswell quad core, 8gb ram, and an Nvidia GTX 970 (!!!!) as MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS.... Seriously? A freaking 970 is considered "minimum"? And to think it is Vulkan-only... Imagine if it was D3D11/OpenGL....
Just like other titles in the X series it's gonna be a long time seller then their engine will be kept and improved over time , just like totalwar games those titles are playing long haul both in terms of gameplay and in terms of sales , so those requirements don't surprise me too much.

When X-Rebirth got released it asked for a GT600 ... in november 2013 ... (so for GPU's that were barely a year old )

I was always interested in X3 but never gave the leap to try, mainly afraid of its vast content. Perhaps X4 could be the one this time.

What the X titles truly need is a guided campaign indeed so that we familiarize oursleves with their mechanics.
The games are great and all but they are bit too hands free in their approach.

Hmm , seems an interesting one to play over the winter period.
Wonder how approachable it is to newcomers.

By the way for the people mentioning Star Citizen, Star Citizen is vaporware. It will never be released, and even if it will, it will be Garbage. The writing is on the wall... X4 just can't be worse than this...

In what universe is a Haswell and a 970 classed as a supercomputer today

And to be fair I don't think anything lower from NV supports Vulkan
