Egosoft have officially announced their latest space sim X4: Foundations is going to launch on November 30th, although the status of the Linux build isn't fully confirmed.
When asked about it, they simply told us "The plan is to launch the Linux Beta at release, but we have to see if that will work out.".
The announcement was accompanied by their new trailer:
Direct Link
They also released a longer gameplay trailer at the same time, which is an interesting way to do it I suppose. It's a game I definitely want to try out, as it does sound quite impressive. The ability to simply get out of your ship, walk around and climb aboard another ship and continue exploring sounds fun.
Egosoft are claiming it to be the "most dynamic X universe ever", with other races in the game free to build and expand, with a lot of the same options as players which should be interesting. It will offer multiple starting points with different characters, each with their own set of relationships, technology, ships and so on too.
The only current store they've confirmed is Steam. If they do manage to get a Linux build out, we will take a look for sure.

And to be fair I don't think anything lower from NV supports Vulkan
Didn't have too much thinking to do to come up with a receivable answer here...

Quoting: GuestEspecially since we're not getting Star Citizen.
A very, very long time ago Chris Roberts mentioned that they had internal Linux builds running without any rendering capability. He also said "Yes" to Linux back then.
More recently, this: https://youtu.be/G42MQ1aVjlA?t=53m
So, certainly not guaranteed, certainly not a hard no.
Quoting: pete910Nvidia supports Vulkan on the GeForce 600 series and up.Quoting: GuestToo bad the system requirements are pretty steep.... It requires a supercomputer to run. A Haswell quad core, 8gb ram, and an Nvidia GTX 970 (!!!!) as MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS.... Seriously? A freaking 970 is considered "minimum"? And to think it is Vulkan-only... Imagine if it was D3D11/OpenGL....
By the way for the people mentioning Star Citizen, Star Citizen is vaporware. It will never be released, and even if it will, it will be Garbage. The writing is on the wall... X4 just can't be worse than this...

Did you see that video?? After watching it, I'm hoping my laptop Nvidia 1070 doesn't choke on it. It looked amazing.
As an aside, this is a superb time for space game fans. We have new or upcoming versions of the following titles:
- X4
- Helium Rain
Plus, working on Proton/DXVK is:
- Landinar: Into the Void
- Between the Stars
- Solar Explorer: New Dawn
- Void Destroyer 2
In addition to the long list of native and Windows space titles that work in Wine/Proton/DVXK.

The fact you have 4 kids is irrelevant to the question! Plus the fact I'm in the same boat, kids/mortgage ect.
A I5 4590 wasn't exactly blowing benchmarks on release let alone to days CPU's

Wasn't sure how far back the NV series but had the maxwell line stuck in my head

I'm sure your kids and the social services will be glad to hear that them being fed and clean and having school furnitures doesn't have priority over new shiny rig ...
Don't even bother to answer.
And again as I have stated even if hefty requirements it's an Egosoft game just like Paradox titles those guys are playing long haul and long term sellers type of buisness plans so it can wait. And they can wait .
X Rebirth was released in 2013 and to this day it still receives frequent patches.
X games are long term investment not just for the players but also for the dev team. Not being a day one buyer won't make you miss much of anything (heck if anything you'll end up having a better first impression than the early adopters )

But I will answer, Having children is only relevant to ourselves, so yes in the eyes of the world/corporations it makes no difference what you or I, the guy down the street does . That is what I am getting at.
Seen as you apparently know A my financial situation and B How my kids are looked after I will part educate you.
AS for my children, They are fine as I planed for them like a responsible parent should do!
My daughter Has just recently moved out and purchased her own property and doing well, My eldest son has just secured a apprenticeship on the local Power station and is currently aiming for a engineering degree. So I guess I must have made sure that the "social services" and "schooling" have been taken care of
Now I will make assumptions on your life/choices.
May be you would have been better off researching and practicing birth control rather than spending on shiny shiny and games !
Quoting: TheRiddickMaybe people should make sure they can afford kids before having them also? :)
