Hypergate from developer Geoff Nagy seems like a pretty good space combat sim that will release with Linux support in December. It has a new trailer to show off.

Have a look at the new trailer:

As a huge fan of games like Freespace and Freespace 2, I'm always keen to play more space action sims like this. After watching the trailer, it certainly captured my interest in it again.

When it releases, it will come with a 10 mission single-player campaign as well as the ability to setup your own skirmish battles exactly how you want. This skirmish battle mode will work in both single-player and LAN play, but no online play for this one. However, it will have online leaderboards to see who is the best.

You can wishlist and follow Hypergate on Steam.

I'm not fan of these, every singleplayer game that have them just didn't checked the actual data.
In HITMAN you could actually see missions completed in second. So most of the time I'm ignoring them and only comparing them with my friends, if anybody is playing the game.

However, the game itself looks great.

Looks nice, and I always welcome any space themed titles to Linux, but I'm disappointed there's no online MP which, if I recall, I think they had touted early in development...
