A Gummy's Life is a really fun multiplayer game that can be played with local players and online. It's now left Early Access with a major update.

I've had quite a lot of fun with this, especially with my Son who adores it because it's completely silly. One thing that wasn't too great was the movement system, which they've actually overhauled as part of the 1.0 update. Movement seems smoother, more responsive and you have a better amount of control with it now too making it an even better experience.

They also added more feedback when you're hit, an improved netcode for online play, the ability to invite friends from any region into a private game, improved AI behaviour, performance improvements and more.

You can play with up to 16 people in local multiplayer or 8 online, the gameplay is easy enough for a six year old to pickup yet there's room for people to become really good at it, plenty of maps and game modes, some silly physics and more. I absolutely recommend it if you like some utterly mindless fun.

Find it on Steam.

Is it better than that failed DoubleFine experiment, Gang Beasts?
Tried playing that with a few friends and we gave up after not even half an hour, with the terrible net code, horrible movement and just not fun gameplay driving us away.

Do controllers work for anyone in this game?
I was really looking forward to playing this game in local multi but I unfortunately had to ask for a refund because it wouldn't recognize my XBox 360 controller nor my Wii u pro controller.
I tried adding LC_ALL=C to the launch command to no avail.
And all other games work fine with my controllers.
If anyone has an advice, I'm interested.

Worked without issues with my Steam Controller and Logitech F310 last time I tested it.

Any game that can get grown ups into endless laughter about sexual innuendos is suitable for 6 and 9 year olds.

I don't know this one but Gang Beasts is pretty awesome in a very specific environment. You need 4 players because 2 is not enough chaos and 3 always ends up 2:1. You need local multiplayer because, well, I agree with your net code comment. You need 4 Xbox controllers because it can't handle anything else well. Controls are okay but need some getting used to. This game looks like it uses very similar system, at least for grabbing and punching.
