Vintage Story is a beautiful survival game that started as an idea for a mod for Minecraft, based on the popular modpack, Terra Firma Craft. It is developed by Anego Studios.
The game is currently still in early access. Development is happening rapidly, with a stable update coming out more or less every other week, with plenty of experimental builds available in between.

Vintage Story, however, can be best described as a middle term between vanilla Minecraft and Terra Firma Craft, offering a robust survival game mode with immersive crafting, all wrapped up in gorgeous voxel graphics.
Recently the game had a big update that added cooking and animal husbandry, both well thought out and satisfying on their own but which will still get updates, revisions, and expansions in the future. You can find the full list of features here.
Vintage Story can be played both as a single-player game, or run on a server for a multiplayer experience. It supports Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Finally, you can find the game for $12.50 at https://www.vintagestory.at/.
Good first article! Had never heard of it :)
I definitely enjoy it! It's not as hardcore as TFC which is great. By the way, if you'd like to see how it pays, I have a series going.
Thank you for reading and for the compliment!
I know, right? You're welcome.

It's a standalone game, no Minecraft required. :)
It only looks like it, but the game is different enough. Every time models and such get updated it gets further away from Minecraft.
It actually persuaded me to buy the game, despite having to fill out annoying Google Recaptchas – seriously? Why do they think I might "be a robot" if I actually complete payment, that should be proof aplenty by itself. Also, it will forever escape me why a physical street address would be required for a digital download...
That said, after playing for a few hours now, I don't regret buying the game; it's definitely a worthy spiritual successor to the original Terrafirmacraft, and its development process definitely looks more active than any of the Minecraft successor mods.
Hey, main dev here. Sorry for the retarded captcha stuff. I hate those with a passion myself. I think I've now
updated the site to use reCAPTCHA v3 which should be less teeth grinding. Otherwise I intend to purchase the software soon so I can get source code access to make the process more user friendly. Right now its a cloud hosted solution.
I'd love to not record your physical address but as far as I am aware of I am legally required to collect that data. Either way, you can also purchase the game on itch.io, through the humble widget, or through the humble store (though all of which seem to require your physical address)
Glad to hear that the game is worth your money anyway! We'll definitely keep working on it
Maybe you could post a link here on GOL and over in your forum as well?
Not that it makes a difference for me any longer; I went through Humble with a grumble, but I'd definitely have preferred itch.io had I known about it.
Anyway, all is well now and I'm really enjoying it.

Ok, I added it to the footnote on the buy game page and that forum post. I still need to advertise the alternative buying options a little stronger though. Thanks for the suggestions :-)
