Wannabe mermaids of the world can now take down evil sirens in the dungeon crawler Serenade of the Sirens, now in Early Access.

Play as Seika, a mermaid that awakens in an underwater cave unable to remember what has happened before. The one thing she does remember is that the evil sirens have created dissonance in the underwater world. Help her defeat the sirens and restore peace to the once harmonious underwater world.

From developer Chukobyte, it's been in development for a while with a Linux build initially landing back in July.

Once again, we have so many games like this I've truly lost count. Although, not many allow you to be a mermaid so that's something I guess. Looks pretty retro and that's being quite kind, looks like she turns into a Super Saiyan too.

Features:

  • Rogue-lite gameplay - Challenging difficulty, multiple ways to power-up Seika, featuring procedurally generated underwater caves.
  • 15+ items
  • 15+ enemies/bosses
  • 4 unique levels
  • 3 abilities
  • 4 permanent powerup paths

You can find it on itch.io and Steam if it looks like your thing.

I finished the demo (available in itch.io). It's short and simple, just four levels and a boss fight. Graphics are kinda ugly but the gameplay is ok. You swim around in search of an exit collecting music notes which are the game's currency and could be spend on upgrades and gaining abilities. You also get coins for finishing levels and spend them on stuff that remains when you die and restart. Nothing special or unique, but I'm fond of underwater games and levels so I like this game.

QuoteYou can now fulfil your dream of dungeon crawling as a mermaid

I never thought this day would come. :)

Seriously though, looks like a bit of fun. Might be one I pitch to the kids!
