Shadow of the Tomb Raider is officially coming to Linux in 2019

Originally published by Square Enix and developed by Eidos-Montréal, Feral Interactive confirmed today that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is officially heading to Linux in 2019.

Making sure we have the full experience, with Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider already ported to Linux by Feral this is really quite exciting news! I've no doubt it will be using the Vulkan API, as I'm sure people will be wondering.

This replaces the recent teaser put out earlier this month on the Feral port radar. So we now have Total War: WARHAMMER II arriving today plus Life is Strange 2, Total War: THREE KINGDOMS and Shadow of the Tomb Raider all heading to Linux. Feral sure are busy and that's good for us.

From the press release:

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara must master a vibrant jungle, overcome challenging tombs, and persevere through her darkest hour. As she races to save the world from a Maya apocalypse, Lara will be forged into the Tomb Raider® she is destined to be.

Lara's quest will take her from the bustling Mexican town of Cozumel to the dark heart of the Peruvian jungle where the hidden city of Paititi awaits. She'll navigate complex underwater caverns, traverse spectacular landscapes, and discover challenging tombs filled with traps.

Outnumbered and outgunned by Trinity, Lara must become one with the jungle and instill fear in her enemies through using mud as camouflage, disappearing into jungle vines or striking from above while perched in the canopy.

Let's hope for an early 2019 release. The longer they wait, the more likely it is they will lose sales from Steam Play. I mentioned before in a comment, that their timing will make or break future ports. I'm hoping for many more Feral ports in the years to come, having officially supported ports is great.

We will share more details closer to release and do our usual port report and review.

C'mon, Feral! Hurry up!

I'm waiting too, though I'm mentally preparing myself that Feral waits until all DLC's are out, similar like the release for Rise. But this is just guessing from me, really no idea when something can be expected :)

I suppose I can buy it right now, knowing that Feral will get their cut anyway.

This is what I read, but not sure if this applies here too. I decided to wait until Feral releases, still very much occupied with Dark Souls 3 :), and then order from their store.

Is it on the radar yet? I haven't checked. Either way I don't plan on buying it till it's native even if it works well in proton.

Hurry Up, Feral! The game works right now on Linux via PROTON.
I live in Argentina and I don't know what is going to happen tomorrow, that is why I want the game as soon as possible.

I guess we first have to wait for the Game-of-the-year edition. Though I hope that's not to far off considering all DLC's are released afaik.

The Game of The year edition already exist and is called [Shadow of the Tomb Raider CROFT EDITION](https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/6973/Shadow_of_the_Tomb_Raider_Croft_Edition/)

By the way, there is another recent [Linux depots](https://steamdb.info/app/750920/history/?changeid=6255594) activity

I wouldn't be so sure that this is the GOTY version. But lets see what happens. I'm also really looking forward to this one, certainly a first-day-full-price-at-feral-store purchase for me.

There is a TRIAL version of SotTR that you can use as a benchmark... My olde GTX970 barely can handle it.. Time for an upgrade.

I know that, but I refuse to touch or (even read) anything of that game until Feral's version is out.
So far I have been strong, lets hope I can keep it like this. ;)

The Trial has a benchmark like the two previous games...

Trial for linux? Where?

And on Linux via PROTON

SAME GPU. Core i7 4790K on Linux and a core i5 4690K on windows.

Uh oh, I have an R9 Fury which means I might need an upgrade too since our cards are pretty equal =(

The problem with my GTX 970 are the 3.5GB of VRAM... SotTR eats about 4 GB at 1080p with the graphic preset on high.
On windows, I can play it with the graphic preset on Normal.

Any DXVK benchmarks will not indicate how well it might run when released by Feral. Rise of the Tomb Raider, for example, is incredibly smooth on my machine when using the native Feral port. It doesn't run at all with wine, and last I heard the performance from anyone who managed to get it running with DXVK was no match at all for the native version.

Be patient a little longer.

Maybe the Denuvo included in the Windows version of Rise of the Tomb Raider is the responsible for that...

The main problem with the Feral ports is this:
Once whatever Linux game port is released, just after few weeks or months later is completely abandoned by Feral. :(

Take a look their Linux port of Tomb Raider (2013)... They can update it to Vulkan for to improve the performance, because it runs better via PROTON.
But, no. They don't update it because blah, blah, blah. :><:
The same for Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Mad Max and LIS:Before the Storm... I know, Mad Max has a vulkan beta, but it is not the same...

But the topic here is SotTR and the trial version works right now via PROTON... I only need to upgrade my GPU from the GTX 970 to a GTX 1660ti (is the best I can do here in Argentina) :)

I am curious about the system requirements for the Linux port against the windows version, but something tells me that the difference is gonna be huge.
