With multiple stores have games on sale, here’s a slightly different look at some possible Linux games to buy. We often highlight exceptional indie games, the few AAA games we have and so on. However, we don’t often highlight some of the more underappreciated gems that aren’t hugely popular, but still worth looking into.

To make the list, they had to be games I’ve personally played and enjoyed, not in Early Access while also not getting a lot of sales and recognition despite being really quite fun. On top of that, they all have less than one thousand reviews from users of Steam, which means they will be overlooked even more than others.

After looking around, taking all aspects into consideration I came up with quite a varied list for you to look into. Here’s ten I consider that fit (in no particular order), with them also being on sale right now and available on Linux:

  1. Basingstoke - Humble Store - Steam
  2. MidBoss | Humble Store - Steam
  3. Crush Your Enemies | Steam
  4. CRYPTARK | Humble Store - Steam
  5. RIVE | Humble Store - Steam
  6. Overfall | Humble Store - Steam
  7. In Celebration of Violence | Humble Store - Steam
  8. Vaporum | Humble Store - Steam
  9. Haque | Steam
  10. Assault Android Cactus | Steam

For those of you who have been holding out and sitting on the fence about picking something up, perhaps this list will help. All deserving of praise, developers that could probably do with a little help too. Even when they’re not on sale, still some quality gaming to be had there.

Titles may be available on other stores, although not on sale (so not linked directly). Only linking to stores that have them on sale.

Both Humble Store and Steam have their big sales ending at 6PM UTC tomorrow, the sale on GOG also ends tomorrow at 11PM UTC.

The Cave might not be as underated as you define it but, imo, it deserves an honourable mention and it's 80% off. :)

Thanks for the input, I was on the fence about Vaporum. I will probably buy it.

You know I don't think I have ever tried it. Everyone's own suggestions for others are welcome too.

Vaporum has been on my radar for a while, and MidBoss is really tempting. I just have to remind myself that I'm not buying games right now.

Yes, it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it's an interesting transposition of Double Fine's traditional strengths in point-and-click puzzles (and comedy) into a 2D platformer. It reminded me a little of some of the British puzzle-oriented platform games of the '80s: Trap Door, the Magic Knight series, and especially the isometric classic Head over Heels, with its “single-player co-op” aspect.

That said, I don't think I stayed with it enough to play through all the characters, but at this price it's definitely worth a look.

Deadfall its an fps with b movie acting but its fun it clocks in at about 4/5 hours and its linux version works perfectly fine at its offer price of either 1.99 or 2.99 its a good deal.

Not even close to being a underappreciated gem at almost 41,000 reviews, missing the point a bit I think ;)

Rive is definitely an amazing game deserving a lot more praise than what it gets. Try it, you won't regret it.

Well you're right :D
I was happy to see it cheap because it is on my wishlist since forever, and I wanted to share in case somebody else were in that case :)

It's not that underrated, but I haven't seen any Linux community members talking about it.
Celeste is my personal GOTY and it's not very often on sale.

In the category of "under appreciated or over looked games", I would definitely add Overload - a successor to Descent series from 90's, a very niche genre.
Good game and good Linux port, it was surprisingly a GOTY for me.

Rive is definitely a good buy.

Assault Android Cactus
also fun

I would like to add
Adventures of Shuggy | [Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/211440/Adventures_of_Shuggy/) and Toki Tori | [Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/38700/Toki_Tori/) to the list

Heh. That's been on my wishlist almost since day 1 of Steam on Linux. I played a free weekend way back then, and remember enjoying it. But I still haven't actually bought it, even at that price. It's probably worth it, though.

Speaking of games from the early days of Linux-ey Steam (or should that be Steamy Linux? :D ), [Kairo](https://store.steampowered.com/app/233230) is an interesting abstract puzzle/exploration thingy which reminded me of the old [Freescape](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freescape) games from the '80s and '90s (argh, I feel old today). I recall the ending being a bit underwhelming but at 80% off, making it less than 1GBP, you can't really go wrong.

That was what I was thinking. Plus, no way you'd finish that on four or five hours.

Raaah Liam I was trying not to buy more games and spend time going through my huge Steam backlog... But I had MidBoss on my wishlist for a while so I finally decided to give it a try. Just played for 2 hours and had a lot of fun, already well worth the ~5€ it cost me.
