With multiple stores have games on sale, here’s a slightly different look at some possible Linux games to buy. We often highlight exceptional indie games, the few AAA games we have and so on. However, we don’t often highlight some of the more underappreciated gems that aren’t hugely popular, but still worth looking into.

To make the list, they had to be games I’ve personally played and enjoyed, not in Early Access while also not getting a lot of sales and recognition despite being really quite fun. On top of that, they all have less than one thousand reviews from users of Steam, which means they will be overlooked even more than others.

After looking around, taking all aspects into consideration I came up with quite a varied list for you to look into. Here’s ten I consider that fit (in no particular order), with them also being on sale right now and available on Linux:

  1. Basingstoke - Humble Store - Steam
  2. MidBoss | Humble Store - Steam
  3. Crush Your Enemies | Steam
  4. CRYPTARK | Humble Store - Steam
  5. RIVE | Humble Store - Steam
  6. Overfall | Humble Store - Steam
  7. In Celebration of Violence | Humble Store - Steam
  8. Vaporum | Humble Store - Steam
  9. Haque | Steam
  10. Assault Android Cactus | Steam

For those of you who have been holding out and sitting on the fence about picking something up, perhaps this list will help. All deserving of praise, developers that could probably do with a little help too. Even when they’re not on sale, still some quality gaming to be had there.

Titles may be available on other stores, although not on sale (so not linked directly). Only linking to stores that have them on sale.

Both Humble Store and Steam have their big sales ending at 6PM UTC tomorrow, the sale on GOG also ends tomorrow at 11PM UTC.

I can recommend Basingstoke. A third-person stealth game with some wonderfully distinctive graphics design. My only criticism (and it's a weak one) is that despite the seemingly simple graphics it really needs a decent GPU to run it, so playing on my laptop is out.

Great article! I love hidden gems. Less than 1000 reviews cuts out some older games that have slowly built reviews over the years, though. Some of these show more than one count for reviews, so forgive me if I found some with "too many":

Super Chibi Knight

By father and daughter. Be forgiving and enjoy the simple fun.

Innerspace

I have no idea why the reviews are mixed, I loved this game.

World to the West

By the same people who did Teslagrad.

The Signal From Tölva

Not for everyone, buy I think this game is brilliant. I want a sequel.

I also agree with Kairo, mentioned above!

Would you mind me using this chance for a plug to our Hidden Linux Gem Steam curation?

[Block Survival: Legend of the Lost Islands](https://store.steampowered.com/app/641980/Block_Survival_Legend_of_the_Lost_Islands/) deserves a shout out. I just finished this gem over the Thanksgiving weekend. It's got a "Positive" review score, but only 36 reviews. Simple, straightforward, smiling shootin' fun. Normally $4.99 USD, it's on sale now for a measly 99 cents on Steam!

Liam do you use steamDB or some email list to know about these sales? I was trying GG deals recently, it's a site much like steamspy, but for sales. Take a look, you might like it! you can even wish list stuff, so you can get notified when something goes on their lowest price ever. I guess they get the info from steamDB to know how much of a sale some game had. and if you use steamgifts they have exclusive giveaways with some pretty neat games like nier and hitman 2.

I picked up RIVE the other day to show some support to the devs. I'm sure I'll die many times. lol
