Here's a curious one, the survival adventure The Long Dark from Hinterland Studio is going to be leaving GOG.

What's even stranger, is that GOG have an agreement with the developer that anyone who currently owns it or purchases it up until it leaves will still get updates to it. This only usually happens when developers are unhappy with GOG in terms of features, service or the "hassle" of supporting more than one store.

Here's what GOG said on their forum:

We'd like to give you a heads-up that on November 7th, 2pm UTC, The Long Dark will be removed from our catalog.

If you were not sure whether you wish to have this exploration-survival game or not, now is a good time to decide :)

Those who already own the games, or will purchase them before this Wednesday, will of course still be able to access them through their library. All owners will also have access to updates even after the game’s removal.

They also clarified here the agreement on updates.

No reason, however, has been given by either party on why this is happening, so I have reached out to Hinterland to see if they can let us know why and I will update this article if they reply. I don't want to speculate on it too much, but perhaps it's as a result of GOG's recent dumb tweet.

So after November 7th (tomorrow) you will have either Humble Store or Steam. If you decide you want it on GOG, find it here for now.

Hat tip to Doomguy in our Discord.

Quoting: BrisseIt might have been misguided the first time (the gamergate tweet IIRC) and they should have learned from it, but then it happened again and again and by then they should have learned their lesson. After the third time they apologized and said "We will stick to games" but that's what they should have done after the first time. Only the future will tell if they stick to their word though.
Fair enough. I was not aware of anything they tweeted previously, only from this article. In which case I would be amazed if they didn't learn anything from this latest incident.

Quoting: BrisseI'm not sure it was your intention but I felt like the free speech dig was some excuse to silence the opposition because ironically people, especially the alt-right for some reason, like to use "free speech" as an argument to just silence the opposition. It's like "Hey, I'll have my free speech and I'll take away your freedom to have my free speech because free speech only belongs to me". I see that a lot, but maybe it was not your intention.
I've never been "anything-right", I'm usually "just-wrong" :D

My free speech dig is at the attack on free speech, most certainly not the suppression of it. Suppression is the problem and will only get worse with successive governments (in the UK at least).

Fuck... the game was on sale recently I think and it's the only store where it is DRM-Free.
Even if we care (I do) about Trans rights etc, I think the problem here is just a shitstorm unfortunately.

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoWell... I won't miss a game without Spanish language support...
So, bye Hinterland! You know where the door is.

It support Spanish but only on Steam it seems.

Quoting: GuestAlso, on that other shit. Tweeting about gamergate is unrelated to games? even if it's called gamergate?

You obviously don't know what happened, so let me explain. Gamergate was an online movement harassing minorities, specifically a few women in the gaming and journalism industry that were personally targeted. This movement more or less went viral and a woman quite literally were receiving death threats from gamergaters over an article she wrote. A lot of games journalists obviously condoned the gamergate movement, and in the midst of the whole thing, GOG had the stomach to put out a tweet with an animated GIF from Postal 2 with the dude pissing on a tomb stone that said "Games Journalism, Committed Suicide, August 28, 2014". This was a very obvious reference to gamergate and even if it might have been a joke, it was really distasteful because it looked like GOG was taking the gamergaters side. It was also really disrespectful towards journalists, some of whom quite literally were putting their neck on the line to report what was really going on.

My son bought the game on GOG. It didn`t even start. So he refunded it.

In my opinion it doesn't matter if it is on GOG...

I think it's time to shut comments down, Liam. Not that they were good to start with, but they're really descending into irrelevant axe-grinding that's got nothing to do with Hinterland's decision.

Quoting: KithopJust going to throw this out there: Every time I hear someone complain about 'SJWs', and how they're ruining-our-whatevers, all I can think of are articles about 'Millenials are killing X industry'.

GOG's social media manager made an insensitive mistake, and in typical fashion, they doubled down on it rather than apologizing or admitting fault.

There's better places to spend your hard earned cash, on DRM-free games or otherwise.

If people want to stop buying games from GOG because of their actions as a company, and if developers want to pull their support, that's all within their rights. Obligatory XKCD.

tl;dr, you start foaming and raving about 'teh SJWs', it's a big neon sign that says 'ignore what this person has to say and move on, as they've missed the point'.
This just this wether you like it or not nowadays if you use the acronym you're just flagging yourself as a reactionary person , and you just showed your true colors and how much you're unwiling to even listen for a single second.

So again I repeat use the acronym and you get my infinite disdain.

Pretty rare we actually have things like this. In this case I agree.

Closing for now until we see any kind of statement.

Remember though folks, we're all here for the same thing :)
