What will you do with the power to control? Beholder 2 seems it will ask that question and it's out now with Linux support.

“You are a newly employed department officer within the Ministry of a totalitarian State. While you are poised to have an illustrious career and possibly become Prime Minister someday, the way up won't be easy. So, how high up the career ladder will you climb? The choice is still yours to make!” -  Evgeny Sister, Producer - Alawar Premium

It takes place in the same world as the original Beholder, although the setting has obviously expanded quite a bit. Like the previous game, it will offer you a lot of choices with different endings. You can choose to be a good worker, trying to get the attention of the "Wise Leader" or go the other way, become a whistle-blower and all sorts.

We may have some thoughts up on it at a later date, we did have a request in for a review key before release but as of yet we haven't received anything.

Beholder 2 can be found on Humble Store, GOG and Steam.

Really intriguing. I've never before seen a game where you get to play as a forum moderator.

Sadly I found the original to be a bit of a scripted puzzle game more than a free-form "spying on people in their own home" game

Perhaps this one could be what I was looking for in the original?
