Fear not, you will still be able to get your next fix as Compulsion Games have confirmed a Linux version of We Happy Few is coming.

Last time we spoke, they told us they had a Linux build running and that was back in September. They've just posted their big end of year update and in it was this note:

We do have some remaining Kickstarter promises to fulfil. These include sandbox mode, and Mac and Linux versions. We currently have a running Linux version that will be available for testing in the new year.

While the released state wasn't great, it seems they've really turned it around with many players now very happy with what they've done after a few patches.

I'm looking forward to it, so it's a bit of lovely news for the end of 2018 for Linux gamers. As a brit myself, how could I pass up the chance to run around in a "drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England".

I always thought this one looked like it might be interesting, mainly because it does not follow the usual tropes. It will probably be more fun than the real 1960's UK, which had been on something of an economic slide since WWII. The space race was fun to live through as a kid though.

Good to hear. I honestly thought this had been quietly dropped :-)

Is it still the buggy mess that tries to combine too many things that it was on release?

I'm looking forward to giving this a go. Didn't think this would realistically come after the MS buyout.

I'm glad they are still working on it. As a backer of both We Happy Few and The Bard's Tale IV, I'm still waiting for both to release Linux versions.

Any news on this? Developers have been completely ignoring questions about the promised Linux release.

https://forums.compulsiongames.com/topic/2187-the-linux-version-of-we-happy-few/

So this starts looking suspicious, especially since they were acquired by MS.

Not much time left of the year to do it either. :S:

I was sure it wouldn't release anymore. :-/ This given, that's a cool move, though: "we will be refunding all our Mac and Linux backers. [...] you are still getting the game on your platform".

Wait over a year, release a poorly optimised version of an average game priced at £45? It honestly sounds like Microsoft got involved. I'm gutted that this car crash was ever associated with Gearbox.

I was looking forward to this title too. What a waste. It raised over £300K too...

At least backers are being issued refunds while getting to keep their Steam keys.
