Sad news for those who purchased ARMA 3 due to the experimental Linux (and Mac) version, as Bohemia Interactive have announced a halt to the updates for it.

As a reminder, Bohemia Interactive teamed up with Virtual Programming (who ported The Witcher 2 and more to Linux) to release a Linux version of ARMA 3 back in 2015. Bohemia put up this page, which highlighted various caveats with the Linux version along with it being labelled as "experimental". They were at least very clear, that the ports might not always be updated and so this isn't entirely unexpected. Since then, it's had a number of updates which usually lagged behind the Windows version quite a lot.

Today, they put out an update post which contains information on what's going on with the ports. It mentions how the ports take a lot of time for preparation and testing, the "port updates are simply quite expensive" and how "work can only begin after the official Windows version of Arma 3 has been successfully deployed to the public".

While it's sad to hear, this situation might not be forever. They noted, that once things calm down in regards to ARMA 3 updates that it's something they "might consider again in the future".

See the full post here.

It's obviously a reminder, that when you pick up a game for any platform that isn't finished or is experimental in some way, that purchasing it might not be the best idea unless you're prepared for something like this to happen.

Quoting: cprnIs there an Arma III server for Linux users that will keep working? That would gather everyone on the one server finally. More players.
Yeah there is. Its called emp's Missions server (similarity with my nick is purely random :D). Actually there is a merged Linux/Mac community around Arma 3. Not that many people, but still better than playing MP alone IMHO.

Quoting: cprnYou shouldn't feel scammed. They never promised anything. You might feel silly for hoping, though. I do.

Yes, this is my opinion too. I had bought the base game and quite some DLC's and had some hopes that Linux would more and more catch up with the Windows updates. Obviously I'm somewhat disappointed but I don't blame Bohemia Interactive. They did everything right in their communication and never pretended false intentions.

Lets also not forget that this game still contains a solo campaign and multi-player between Linux people still works, similar to Feral's TW series.

hmm... was halfhearted anyway... never was able to seriously fly helicopters (which is the most interesting part remaining for me of this game/sim) with the Linux version anyway...
actually what I'd been more interested in now would be a native "Take on Helicopters" Linux version with full support of all features, updated graphics (at least on par with Arma3 or WarThunder), Mission & TimeTrial Creator and Steam Workshop Support...

Is it official Linux gamers server, I don't know. If it is, I'll surely join. For now I'll stay skeptical and only join what Liam recommends, sorry.

Quoting: Xaero_VincentLooking on Youtube, people are successfully playing this game with Medium graphics with Intel iGPUs.

So if you have a laptop or desktop with a Skylake, Kabylake, Kabylake Refresh, and (soon Coffee Lake) Intel processor with iGPU enabled, you can try GVT + DMABuf. I've messed with this last year and early this year but I don't have ARMA 3 nor care to buy it. However, I imagine the may work with some fiddling. I got the Unigine Benchmarks to work on my laptop alright. My old simple GVT script can be used as a template with slight modification.

Nice find.
May i ask the exact source on that.
Did mess with Qemu in the past. Wondering if i can do it again but better.
