Oxygen Not Included, the excellent colony building sim from Klei has another update out. This time, they're more focused on gameplay improvements than new shiny features.

A few new bits did make it in though like new decorative items, a Master Artist role for duplicants (your colonists), a Pedestal Building for increasing the decor value of items and a Sight-Seeing Module to send a duplicant into space to boost their morale and productivity.

Apart from that, there was a large focus on improving all aspects of the gameplay from better AI behaviour to bug fixes. There's some major crash-bug fixes too, so it sounds like this "Quality of Life" patch has a lot of good stuff in it.  This is only the beginning though, Klei are planning multiple updates like this to improve everything and not just constantly add new stuff.

You can see the full update notes here. Find the game on Steam.

Honestly, this would be in my top five games this year easily if it wasn't for it still being in Early Access. It has so many features that make it worth a look, although it can be a little intimidating in the early game. Thankfully, it's not overly complicated. It has a good balance of features versus fun I think. Highly amusing and frustrating at the same time, especially when your duplicants decide to urinate everywhere or throw up in your fresh water source.

Klei's focus on quality is something I admire too.

I have spent a lot of time in this game, but I still do not like, that it forces me to build base, like devs want. I can not build it, like I want it. I have to hurry exploration, to find geysers and some ways how to cool everything down. And everything is forcing me to build ugly base, that splits into many parts. I understand that there is other biomes and resources, and that is ok, to go and take them. But I do not like, that it is part to survival. Not just next level of technology. It takes fun part out of the game. But that is my opinion and reason, why I do not want it, to play any more.

I have played this game 300+ hours. It gave me many hours of fun to try to find solutions to everything from overheating to getting the chlorine gas out of the way. It is very hard to find a good balance for everything, but that's also what makes it so fun. It stimulates my creative mind to try to find solutions to problems.

I haven't played it for quite a while now and it has been updated several times inbetween, so maybe it is time to try it out again.

if I am going to be able to build a successful base or not depends a lot upon the map generation, for access to some geysers is essential. As resources run out after a while anyway it is always a race against time, but a good start helps a lot.

The only thing I don't like about this game is that it is a Unity game, so the Linux version relies on Mono...

I'm sorry that you have not experienced real world survival in your sandboxed city.
Its explore and develop or die! Thats how evolution works and thats how it should be.
You should be put in a cage with bear so that you can think "I wish I had explored this cage before".

Yes, and I would like to develop and not relying on some alien technologies in other biomes. Best example is hydrofan. Why it need duplicant to work? They can create super computer, but can not make hydrofan that works on electricity? Any way, I am feeling limited in this game, and that is, what I do not like.
