Valve may be gearing up for an interesting few years, as it seems Erik Wolpaw who helped write Portal, Half-Life: 2 episodes and more is now back at Valve.
The tip comes from ValveNewsNetwork and I've certainly got no reason to think it's not true as McVicker does some pretty decent Valve coverage on YouTube. On top of that, Wolpaw is actually listed in the credits for Artifact (see here).
We know that Valve do have multiple titles in the works at the moment, so bringing in more people isn't exactly surprising. They recently released Artifact, In the Valley of Gods is coming since Campo Santo joined Valve and they have others they say are "top secret".
It will be interesting to see what they're doing especially since Valve is possibly making a VR Half-Life game. It's certainly going to be a fun year.
I just want to see a new Left 4 Dead game, is it too much to ask?
As always, I've reached out to Valve to confirm it too just to be sure.
Only time will tell. Good to know Valve is back making games.
Time, Mr Freeman?
I really hope they take theirs instead of releasing a half-backed HL3. Epistle 3 sounds amazing in my head. There is so much to explore, so many questions to answer.
If I have any wishes for the next HL, it would be to make it a bit grimmer, with no clear-cut good decisions, but rather more unintended consequences. Also, reinforce again the sentiment of being colonized by an overwhelming force, just like Oceania was.
I've read a reddit post on HL being an essay on colonization, and teleportation technology, and it made me dream a sequel even more. But a good one :)
Edit: Now that I think more about it, a whole universe dedicated to teleportation might be ideal for a VR game.

Absolutely. Part of the appeal is precisely the ambiguity in many situations. I only hope The G Man character will not get out of hand, but again, only the authors know. I really wish they finally conclude the story arc portrayed in Ep. 2, and then move on to whatever they want (human colonization of Xen?) Whatever they do, I only hope it will have the degree of polish that shut my mouth back in 2004 with HL2, a game I was sure could not live up to the hype it generated... Lo and behold, not only did it live up to it, surpassed it and only instilled even MORE. Valve, please, shut my mouth again!Only time will tell. Good to know Valve is back making games.

Or what they did with Portal... Masterpiece.
He's there to work on Half Life VR, a prequel to Half Life 2, because prequels are always beloved and never screw anything up. After all, we all know that what we really wanted was to find out what Darth Vader was like as a little kid.
I'm curious what the 7 Hour War looked like.

At some point I thought they would make that into a movie or mini series of sorts. Still interesting.

Of course you do. That's how they hook you. And then Suddenly a beloved character is getting a his last name from a random extra or to quote stand up comic Patton Oswalt, "I DON'T CARE WHERE THE STUFF I LOVE COMES FROM, I JUST LOVE THE STUFF I LOVE."
I haven't played The Death of the Outsider, so don't spoil me.
We know they want to do stuff with VR, and those games would just be too perfect for them to not do it (especially L4D).
If there's any games Valve has in its arsenal which could be given a VR version and make everyone have to seriously stop and consider buying a VR headset it would be L4D and Portal in my opinion.
(Also HL3 would do the trick too of course, but I've given up hope on that).

I think We, the gamers, are giving over reacted credit to the Half Life or Portal franchises.
They were (and they are) entertaining games, with a good background story and a good gameplay, being Portal much more innovative than HalfLife, because it wasn't a killkillkill game.
The only reason why this super ultra hype for HL3 exist is just because the previous game ended with a cliffhanger, a "to be continued", like a TV series..
(I don't know You, but when I watch a Tv series or a movie trilogy, I prefer to do it in a "marathon" way)
HL3 and Portal 3 will come, yeah, but don't expect master pieces of the videogame art..
Don't expect a "before and after" in the story of the videogames.. Don't expect a cultural revolution.. Don't expect a change in the humankind....
Just expect very entertaining games with exactly the same mute floating lens and the same playability, but with better graphics.
