Now that the fantastic looking FPS game Insurgency: Sandstorm is out for Windows, I've seen a few people worried about the status of a Linux version. I spoke to New World Interactive to clear up the situation.
The worry, seems to be how they've adjusted their wording about future platforms for the game. They previously noted in December last year that a Linux version would be coming "post-release", however their recent wording has changed to talk about consoles and how they will "explore additional platforms in the future".
After speaking with New World Interactive, they were rather clear on it. Here's what they told me today:
Don't worry! We are are hoping to bring Insurgency: Sandstorm to Linux this year. It is something we're still working on, so we haven't announced a specific release date just yet.
So it's coming and hasn't been dropped, don't fret.
Personally, I'm very much looking forward to it. I enjoyed the previous Insurgency game and this looks like a great evolution. Take a look:

If you wish to follow it, it's available on Humble Store and Steam.

A statement like this in January is not exactly inspiring for Linux gamers.

I was about to post something along the same lines. A "hope" is not a confirmation - we can all hope. Plenty of things, actually.
It does however confirm that they've not ruled out Linux. We're still on their todo-list. But yeah... Absolutely no guarantees found in that quote at all.
may just refund it tbh
"It's coming" isn't what I see in their words.
Quoting: Doc AngeloThe game seems to be quite good, but this is nothing to be happy about as a Linux gamer, especially if you bought it because of the statements that were made before. I'm not sure why this is portrayed as something positive. It's the typical "not yet, but maybe later" game. Especially if the entity who is doing it "hopes" it will come, it's a pretty negative sign. What are they hoping for? Does that mean they are not in control of it? Maybe just unfortunate wording? Or not?I agree, not super encouraging, which is a shame as it's one my most anticipated titles of this year. The Windows version has gotten excellent reviews... Hopefully they firm our Linux situation up a bit more...

To me it reads more like - we're hoping we'll be able to release it this year (as in opposed to the next year).
It's just that NWI has a lot of thing on the roadmap for this game, and they're not sure if they'll manage to release it this year, but they're hoping they will.

Hmm, that sounds not very promising to me.
Would be great to see it on Linux, but I believe it, when I see it
