Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire just got a beta to add in a turn-based mode

Obsidian Entertainment have updated Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire in quite a big way, with an open beta for owners to try out the new turn-based mode. It's an optional mode of course, no one is forcing you into it.

I must admit, this would probably make me appreciate it a lot more. I do honestly much prefer turn-based systems for these types of RPGs.

On top of that, there's also some vital fixes for saved games to prevent corruption, performance improvements, balance changes to character abilities, lots of bug fixes, visual effects updates and so on.

Full patch notes can be found on their official forum here. It's really good to see Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire supported like this with huge features after the main release.

As much as I would like to check it out and provide some kind of insight into how different it feels, GOG don't have the beta available for Linux where I own it (they do have the beta for Windows). If you're wondering why they might not get a beta for Linux, I mentioned some of this in a recent article.

This sounds really good and could be just the right game/combat mode for me.
I still haven't finished the first PoE though, so it probably will take some time before I will give this mode a try.

I only put a few hours into PoE II so far, so this might actually be a good time to start over and play a bit more. At any rate, it's nice to see a game supported and extended by the developer for so long after release. (And more reason to not rush through a game as soon as it is out)

No bugs. Both Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity run beautifully on my Manjaro installation. I highly recommend them if you enjoyed games like Neverwinter Nights.

I've played quite some Tyranny without any bugs (no dlc) and also PoE1 and now I havent gotten very far in PoE2 but this makes me really want to get back into it! Really cool stuff. I also much prefer turn based, altho it looks a little strange without tiles, but perhaps you get used to it.

I've played through PoE in 2017 with both White March DLCs. I had one annoying bug - whe I was hovering over picture of a team member it was moving like 1 or 2 pixels left and right or up and down, which was annoying. Other than that, PoE is a great game.
I haven't managed to play through Deadfire yet, however my copy is waiting on my on my Steam account.
