Talking point: What are you playing this weekend?

By -

It's nearly the end of January already, feels like the year is going rather quickly! With all the releases we've had lately along with some excellent games last year, what are you clicking on this weekend?

I'm rather sick from a nasty bug going around my Son's school so I shall mostly be moaning, groaning and playing something like Slay the Spire since it's ridiculously good and requires very little actual effort. Bonus points to it for working very nicely on my notebook so I can do it in bed.

I might also be catching up on some more Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus, since I've been having a lot of fun with it and the turn-based nature of it means I can take my time. I'm still in a little shock at just how atmospheric and stylish it is, they did a good job.

If you're stuck and looking for something new, Steam has two interesting sales going on right now. Their Aussie Sale 2019 runs until Monday and their Global Game Jam Sale is also on until tomorrow!

There's also the GOG Weekly Sale, there's a few days left on the Humble Double Fine Presents Bundle and the Caffeine bundle both with great games.

What are you playing and what do you think about it?

Battlefield 4 Premium Multiplayer via DXVK + Wine. :)

If I have enough time it will be State of Mind, or just some quick sessions on Hollow Knight... or maybe both if it's a real lazy Sunday. ^_^

Starcraft II! Its awesome and Gallium Nine is a must to play this game. The engine is heavily CPU bottle necked which doesn't help wine at all, Nine takes off the Dx9 -> OGL conversion off the CPU and the game performance becomes very good.

X2: The Threat. X3 is nice and all, but I love parking my ship inside of a station, it's the little thing that increases my immersion to the point where I just love flying around planning my economic empire.

The Witcher 3 (Proton) - after 73 hours of gameplay I finally reached the end of the main storyline. The hype about this game is validated...

TW:Warhammer 2 - loving this game!

Some Doom wads as always, including Freedoom Phase 1 and my own wads.

Quoting: ageresI'm trying to get Resident Evil 2 remake working, but it doesn't work due to stupid WMF, so I'm playing the Gamecube version of the original RE2 on Dolphin.

This might help a bit..

Slime Rancher just because and The Lion's Song. I'm partway through the third chapter in the latter and am pretty sure the smug dude is going to rip off the protagonist's theorem. :(

We're back to family fun with Move or Die, thanks to forced SteamPlay, after the game being broken for over 6 months on SteamOS (due to too old libstdc++ shipped with the system).

Quoting: sergioandvarDoki Doki Literature Club! I think it's a great visual novel and not very long. It plays great on Proton, just click n' play!
Why use Proton for a game that has a "native" Linux version packaged along with the Windows download (assuming you got it from itch.io)? It's written in Python, so it's actually platform agnostic, and you can easily launch it using the "ddlc.sh" file in the game's folder.

I'm currently playing Hero-U. I got it while it was on sale on GoG at some point, and although I must say that I'm torn. I like the story and the characters, but the fixed schedule on most of the game days feels a bit like, well, going to school. Also, I guess I'm about 15 years older than the game's target audience. Physical age, that is. I still refuse my mental age to progress beyond 10.

The Witcher 2. I've been churning through my backlog lately and hope to get this one wrapped up soon. Also been playing with OBS and setting up some limited streaming to Twitch. We'll see how that goes.

Impressed by the diversity of what everyone is playing. For me, it's:

  • Rocket League (Native)

  • Allspace (Native)

  • Hypergate (Native)

  • Angels Fall First (Proton)

  • Clone Drone in the Danger Zone (Proton)

  • Also, shout out to whoever was using GCompris. My kids (1st and 3rd grade) can still always find something there they love.

Question to all: My kids both play chess, and chess.com seems fine, but is there a great Linux chess program out there somewhere?

Dishonored 2 -- hopefully on proton if it doesn't start acting up again.

I really like it, though at normal difficulty it's still a tad too easy. The second game's environments are a lot more detailed (and more Deus Ex-like), though, and that's a big plus.
