This is going to be terrible for my free time. Slay the Spire, the excellent card-game roguelike fusion has officially enabled Steam Workshop support.

What's interesting, is that they now offer two options when launching the game. One to play the vanilla game and one that will enable mods you've subscribed to. I like this option, as it's then quick and easy to go back to the normal game without disabling each mod you decide to try out.

There's already some rather interesting mods, like The Slimebound which adds in a sentient Acid Slime as a playable character complete with a full set of cards and new interactions with other creatures.

I have to admit, I've already had quite a lot of fun with the modding support here. Playing as The Slimebound is certainly a very different way to play, as you keep splitting yourself into more slimes and end up dealing quite a lot of damage to enemies.

It doesn't suddenly make it any easier though, especially since your actual starting cards aren't all that powerful in this mod. Seems like they've done a pretty good job at balancing it.

The game is going to be leaving Early Access later this month and the price will be increasing. So if you do want to pick it up, now is a good time.

My main wish for it right now, is that they fix the fullscreen support on Linux which currently seems to be broken. It never worked well but now it seems to always run in a window which is a slight nuisance.

You can find it on Humble Store and Steam.

Now that is cool! I will be interested to see what kind of silly decks will be made with this new modding stuff.

Just wait until they come out with the next official playable character. And a whole new deck to go with them. The devs said "more coming" so I suspect they've got multiple new characters planned.

Certainly been getting my money's worth with this game. 260 hours play so far (4 Jan 2019) ... and this is before it got Mod support and "even more" developer content (e.g. new characters). It has been very pleasant for me to see and experience each of the additions to the game since early access (e.g. when the Defect character got revealed).

Prior to "Slay The Spire" I was smitten by FTL: Faster The Light ( and here's the GOG Link )

Not saying that it is of similar level, but I recently began playing indie title "Frost" and this survival rogue-like card game is also scratching a similar itch (i.e. I recommend it too). Frost has a free, playable demo so you can have a try before blowing any cash.

Have you tried Dicey Dungeons? I find it, too, scratches a similar itch with weird emergent combos and general one-more-turn-ness. Although it's very much in development, so while playable and fun it still has a ways to go.

Haha, yes, I'm already aware of this title and it is on my Wishlist. Still, thanks for bringing it up and other GOL readers will be able to go check that one out too.

You can buy it on Itch and there's a free Steam key. The Itch version is more regularly updated. It's an AWESOME game, only really bettered (in replayability) by Slay the Spire.

Quoting: GuestOh nice I think this game is a great fusion of roguelike/card game mechanics and I'm a fan of both. My one main wish was more content so it could hit proper roguelike replayability and maybe this will help do that :D

I have 75 hours in Slay the Spire and still play most nights. It's fantastic.

[Edit: making it clear which game I was referring to!]
