The weekend is about to crash into our lives once again, you're sat staring at your screen wondering what to play and we're here to help.

First up, BATTLETECH is having a free weekend so you have around 1 day and 22 hours to download it on Steam and try it out for free. If you decide you like it, there's 40% off the price right now too.

Steam also has a Square Enix sale going on, where you can grab a number of interesting titles for super cheap including Life is Strange, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, Rise of the Tomb Raider and more.

GOG's special Lantern Festival sale is still going on for those who prefer direct DRM-free downloads, it ends on February 25th, 11 PM UTC. They have a good selection of RPGs on sale like Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

Over on Humble Store, they have some nice bundles up like the Great GameMaker Games Bundle which includes title like Crashlands, Cook, Serve, Delicious! and more. For those who like to tinker, they have an interesting Microcontrollers Raspberry Pi & Arduino book bundle too.

Fanatical are also doing a bunch of new bundles, which includes the Colossus Bundle that has seven Linux games like Moon Hunters and Epistory - Typing Chronicles. Additionally, if you still don't own Insurgency their FPS Legends Bundle includes both Insurgency and FarSky for less than £1.

Whatever you pick up and play, be it a new game or a golden oldie you've had collecting dust for months, have a fantastic weekend everyone!

I'd love to try this out. Unfortunately, on both the "stable" and beta Steam client, there is an issue which has caused all downloads to slug along at between 10 and 65 kb/s. >.> By the time the download finished, the free weekend would be over.

My games partition is already practically full, so I'm not going to bother trying out Battletech. Noting that Terratech is also doing a Free Weekend and 40% discount sale on Steam.

BATTLETECH… didn't find time to even download despite owning it on GOG. :( A delayed version is a delayed version; the hype (not to mention the summer vacation) is long gone, now I have other games to play already.

Nb, if BattleTech is not starting for you, check if you have two USB joysticks connected. The version of Unity they are using crashes at startup if there is more than one USB joystick connected (you can see the stacktrace in the startup log). Unplug one, and it should work.
