For those who like their sweet casual puzzle games, Snakebird Primer has released today with Linux support.

This is actually the second Snakebird game, although Snakebird Primer seems to be aimed at helping introduce you to the first game as the developer says:

The snakebirds are back, this time yellowbird joins the team on a more relaxed island with easier puzzles. A casual puzzle game for the entire family as well as a primer for the serious challenges of the original game.

Featuring all new puzzles on a bigger island, new places to explore, more bird, more fruit, more everything.

Have a look at their trailer to see what to expect:

Snakebird Primer does look very charming and colourful, looks like pretty fun puzzler. Our contributor Flesk took a look at the original some time ago and seemed to quite like it. Others liked it too, as it's sat with a "Very Positive" user rating on Steam so if it's more of the same it should do reasonably well.

You can find it on Steam.

I remember this video by the late TotalBiscuit, from years ago: https://youtu.be/0RgiXklIELk?t=1014 (it's pretty funny; he's awful at the game.)

Don't let the charming looks deceive you, the first game is quite difficult, far from casual.

Well, in this case the developer is specifically saying it's a casual game.

Ooh, I am thrilled!

Having some difficulty launching the app, though: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1014140/discussions/0/1797403972733719945/ - I assume that'll get sorted eventually. Anyone have any ideas about that?

That's nice but I'd prefer "Snakebird 2" with a step up from the difficulty of the original.

A similar issue I saw in another game, if you re-name the Steam API file and put it where it wants it, it should launch. Should be easy for the dev to fix.

Heh, hello over here as well! Yeah, in this case it's some files that are flat-out missing, though fortunately you can find 'em in the original Snakebird instal folder. I agree that it'll be simple enough for a dev to fix, and anyone with the original Snakebird (or possibly also any other Mono-based game) would have the files on-hand to fix right away anyway.

Unfortunately I'm also having some other graphical corruption issues right after finishing the first level:

Much as I don't mind having an easier Snakebird to play through, just that first little tutorial level itself is unlikely to hold my interest. :) I have faith it'll get fixed.

Try this fix and see if it helps.

Nope, doesn't do the trick! (I hadn't tried until now 'cause I'm on Mesa/Intel instead of nVidia, though of course it didn't hurt to check.)

Hmm odd, can't test myself as I don't own it, could be a Mesa bug?
