NVIDIA have again pushed out a brand new Vulkan beta driver, with version 418.31.03 now available with game fixes and new extensions.
As a reminder, these drivers are a special series all by themselves, done outside of their normal driver series to test new features, new API extensions and other interesting stuff.
Here's whats new and changed in this release:
- New Extensions:
- Fixes:
- Hitman 2 visual corruption on Linux when running with dxvk translation
- Total War Warhammer II crash or hang when using Alt-Tab on Linux
It's good to see NVIDIA act so quickly to help improve Linux gaming, also interesting to see drivers get special adjustments just for projects like DXVK. Not surprising though, since it's included in Valve's Steam Play. The more games playable on Linux, the wider the testing area they have.
See the full info on the NVIDIA website.
Hat tip to Jack!

The Nvidia drivers on Ubuntu can be installed using the default installer from the official website, I've been installing them that way for the past 5 years without issues.

Why is there no official Linux port of Hitman 2?

According nvidia json file:
{ "fileformat_version" : "1.0.0", "ICD": { "library_path": "NV_VK_ICD_", "api_version" : "1.1.99" } }

I am even surprised it apparently survived kernel upgrades for you....
(in the most extreme cases I build the package myself)
I used nvidia's installers for about a year on Fedora (and briefly on openSUSE), with no problems; the kernel modules would be automatically rebuilt with each update. I moved to negativo17's repos just out of laziness -- and because he updates his repo very quickly. (The only drawback is that he doesn't package the beta drivers for stable (so to speak) Fedora.)
I understand distros' general caution about this, but I don't get why they don't explain (in wikis or manuals; whereever the topic of proprietary nvidia drivers comes up) *exactly* what's under risk of breaking. It can't *just* be that they don't want newbies to panic when they have to boot into a virtual terminal.

What are the effects of having VK_EXT_depth_clip_enable? Does having and using this extension by DXVK prevents some sort of clipping issues or is it more efficient/improves performance when setting this (once) on the driver side?
(I wish my knowledge would be better in graphics api domain..)

@TheDaftRick your link is the stable PPA, so that doesn't include beta for Vulkan testing, that's why liamdawe said yours is the wrong one
At least, the normal PPA is still active...

I played the whole game with Proton and didn't noticed any issues. What was wrong? o.o
i guess this is why. this game runs pretty good with proton and some linux users already played it
same with life is strange 2.
less money for feral
feral should focus on unplayable games like online games (or Hitman: Absolution) and action games where you need more FPS... like shadow of war
