The Wine 4.3 development release is quite an interesting one, as it includes Ethan Lee's XAudio reimplementation named FAudio.
Quite a big one, since FAudio could help with a lot of audio issues in games and applications. From Lee's own FAudio GitHub page, it notes (for those who didn't already know) the aim is to have "fully accurate DirectX Audio runtime libraries" which includes "XAudio2, X3DAudio, XAPO, and XACT3".
Aside from FAudio, this release also includes:
- Mono engine updated to the latest upstream.
- More modern handling of iconic windows.
- Improved handling of kernel objects.
There's also 45 bugs that were noted as fixed this round. Included in the fixes are bugs squashed with League of Legends, BattlEye, Heroes of Might and Magic VI, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood and others too.
See their release announcement here.

But I still needed to install FAudio for Skyrim: Special Edition - and I'm on the steam client beta.
Using Steam Beta is something different than using Proton Beta. I would say you are using Proton 3.16 (stable) but not Proton 3.16 Beta. I'm on Steam stable, but have selected "Proton 3.16-7 Beta" in my Steam Play settings. Could you review your settings there?
Your DXVK hud should show DXVK version 0.96, otherwise you are not using Proton 3.16-7 beta.
Edit: You can also set the Proton version per game (Right mouse button on a game -> Properties -> Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool).

Quoting: jensThere are next to FAudio2 other fixes in 4.3. As soon Valve adopted 4.3 into Proton we will see much more improvements.Quoting: GuestThis is huge. come on, bring the new proton out already, it sucks to use wine + windows steam client to have forcefeedback in Dirt Rally 2.0. It doesn't work with proton sadly.

Anyone know how I can use FAudio with older Wine versions? I know Proton does this for a while but how about using it with just Wine?
So far I've managed to build the "libFAudio.so" library but I'm at a roadblock how to get Wine to use it.

Knew I was missing something > building the libraries as native dll's it seems. Will try these thanks :)

Yes, of course. My comment was for the inclusion of FAudio only, I apologize if I misunderstood the original statement. The jump from wine 3.16 to 4.3 (or whatever the next version will be) as base for Proton will certainly show quite some improvements.

So will using Wine 4.3 from WineHQ be a problem on Debian which didn't get faudio packaged yet?
