Developer EggNut has released a Prologue for their noir-inspired detective adventure, one that was funded on Kickstarter that planned Linux support.
Sadly, we're in for a bit of a wait for Backbone: Prologue to have official Linux support. It released on Steam yesterday and when speaking to the developer on Twitter, they said that they will publish to Linux later "probably in a couple of weeks" so if you were sad to see it Windows only fear not as it is coming. Looks really good too, see for yourself in the trailer below:

A little more about what to expect from it:
Backbone's gameplay is a new take on point-and-click adventure, featuring stealth, exploration and extensive branching dialogues inspired by classic CRPGs. As Howard, you must traverse the different districts of a now walled-off Vancouver, sniff out clues, collect evidence, interrogate witnesses, and choose which leads to follow.
Inspired by film noir, Backbone will submerge you into its dark dystopian atmosphere. Every animation in the game is handcrafted frame by frame, and environments are modeled after real streets of Vancouver, BC. The breathtaking combination of high resolution pixel art and 3D effects like dynamic lighting, pouring rain, volumetric fog and neon lights bring the sprawling city to life. Original doom jazz soundtrack will keep you on the edge with the enveloping veil of bebop and cinematic soundscapes, where every sound tells a story.
You can follow it along on Steam or try it with Steam Play if you wish. I'm just happy to know the Linux version wasn't cancelled, which happens with crowdfunding sometimes.

FWIW, I played all 3 Runaway games with WINE, years ago. Presumably they would work well with Proton.
I also remember a scene from the second game well, where the protagonist takes a break from looking for his kidnapped, possibly dead, girlfriend to sleep with another woman, and afterwards do a silly victory dance on the beach.
If they make a Linux game, I'll give it a new chance, but otherwise I'm not so interested in what they're doing these days.
Backbone, on the other hand, looks very cool. :)
EDIT: I managed to track down some stuff I wrote about the two first Runaways in 2012:

I hope they won't "surprisingly" have issues with the Linux port... :S:
