Humble Bundle are currently giving away copies of Gone Home in the Humble Trove and let's take a look at some other good deals going currently.

Firstly, Gone Home is free to grab until May 3rd as part of the Humble Trove, a curated selected of DRM Free games that everyone who subs to the Humble Monthly has access to. The free offer doesn't need you to sub to it though of course.

GOG's Weekend Sale has a few nice games available for Linux like PixelJunk Shooter (see Scaine's thoughts on that here), Paranautical Activity Deluxe Atonement Edition, Songbringer and The Coma: Recut.

Alien: Isolation, a fantastic horror game that was ported to Linux by Feral Interactive is also super cheap right now due to the 40th anniversary of Alien. You can find it for 75% off on Humble Store and Steam. Feral's own store also has it on sale but not as cheap, your choice if you want to give the porter a little more.

Humble Store are also doing a Tomb Raider Week currently and there's good deals there too like Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration being 80% off.

Fanatical have a good deal going on Tabletop Simulator, a surprisingly good board game physics sandbox. I've played quite a lot of different games with it and I'm constantly surprised by it. It's 57% off although not for long and in limited amounts.

For those of you making good use of Steam Play, Valve have a Capcom sale going with titles like MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD (Gold rating on ProtonDB) and others going cheap. Valve also have Transport Fever super cheap with 70% off to celebrate the announcement of Transport Fever 2. Dying Light Enhanced Edition, one of the best Zombie games I've ever played is also 70% off on Steam - it has a native Linux port but when you run it with Steam Play the performance is much better!

Think people need to know about a good deal? Let everyone know in the comments!

I haven’t really played them yet, but these games are generally highly rated and on sale on GOG at the moment:
https://www.gog.com/game/hollow_knight -34%
https://www.gog.com/game/thimbleweed_park -50%
https://www.gog.com/game/darkest_dungeon -70%

I also bought Minit which seems like it could be fun, for 5€ or so:
https://www.gog.com/game/minit -40%

All the games run on Gentoo 64 bit (ALSA, Nvidia).

Hollow Knight does not recognize my Dualshock 2, ignores non-ascii keys, and has a strange French translation so it’s not ideal, but it’s still playable.

it doesn't matter, you'll still love Hollow Knight!

I haven't played the other two, but Hollow Knight is one of those games that doesn't necessarily seem like much when you start playing, but you keep finding yourself thinking, 'Oh, that's cool!' as you get further into it, except for the parts where you're thinking, 'Wow, that's hard!' I still haven't finished it yet.

The downloadable version of Gone Home didn't work for me out of the box with the view being stuck and the mouse not responding. I had to change my desktop regional settings to US or set the environment variable LC_ALL=C before running the executable.

If you're into point and click, you must have played Thimbleweed Park.

To workaround this, do you use something like AntiMicro to remap keyboard keys to gamepad perhaps?
Playing any platformer with keyboard is far from ideal, some might even go so far to call HK unplayable with keyboard controls.

Is there anything beyond personal customs that would make keyboard less suitable than gamepad? You don't need anything analogue for a jump and run (unlike say driving games or shooters), right?

Apart from the superior experience a dedicated gaming controller provides, I'd say ergonomics is reason enough. There are no analog/level sensitive axis controls in HK afaik, so you can absolutely play with a keyboard.
Barring any disabilities, I'd be very hard pressed to recommend anything other than a gamepad for HK (or platformers in general).

100% my personal opinion.

100% my personal opinion.

After 35 years of playing with keyboards, I doubt I'd benefit.

PS: I do use a gamepad for "analogue" stuff like Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, though.

I can't figure out where the download link for Gone Home is. When I click on the "Gone Home" picture on the Trove page it just pops up the trailer video. What am I missing?

Aha, thanks tuubi!

In my browser the font size is set so high that the trailer video takes up my entire screen, and however they have it coded does not give any way to scroll the popup or give any indication what has gone wrong. When I shrink the font I can see the download button now.
