Wine 4.7 continues the development towards Wine 5.0 with another of their biweekly releases now available.
What's new and improved:
- Support for builtin libraries in PE format even on Unix.
- Updated version of the Mono engine.
- More implementation of the Debug Engine DLL.
- Support for the Command Link standard control.
- Improved Edit control sizing in CJK locales.
- Various bug fixes.
For the bug fixes, they noted 34 now marked as solved. As always, some may be older bugs being re-tested that were fixed previously. Issues were solved with Star Wars The Old Republic, Watch_Dogs, SpellForce 3, Rockstar Games Social Club, Sniper Elite V2, Sniper Elite 3 and more including issues solved that affected multiple games and applications.
See the full release announcement here.
As always, I continue to be impressed by the incredible work everyone hacking away at Wine are able to achieve. The task they have is a monumental one and it's not easy but lots of people appreciate it, even more so now since it's part of Steam Play which has helped to essentially validate all their effort.
I was going to give up on writing puns in the headlines, but I like giving you reasons to Wine.
In test with d9vk improvements are so much compared wined3d (around 2x performance with around 50% less cpu usage)

is d9vk and vk9 one and the same? I know the VK9 guy left for life reasons, is that code being pulled over to d9vk?
No, they are not the same. d9vk is based on dxvk. vk9 is a separate effort. d9vk looks more promising today.
Can't wait for d9vk to be production-ready. I'm hoping it makes a difference with Guild Wars 2.
Same here! GW2!!!

I know it's not gaming related, but my biggest pain with Wine is that I cannot run my graphical software with it. Unfortunately both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer use some fringe DX10 library and the DXVK Dev has straight out said he has no interest in working on it as virtually no games use it. So I keep checking Wine releases, hoping to see Serif software is finally working with it. I can get by with Notepadqq instead of Notepad++, for the most part Libre Office can replace MS office, I can run OneDrive sync with some effort and I don't do nearly enough video editing to be crying over Vegas Pro not working on Linux, but dammit I need my image editing software. Rant over :D.I didn't know about Notepadqq. I switched from Notepad++ to Kate personally and I'm happy with it, but your mileage may vary because I don't really want much out of my editor other than syntax highlighting and split views.
Sorry about your software issues. Wine improves all the time, I hope you'll get what you need! Getting my music software work was really important, no, vital to me.

Yeah, Notepadqq tries to emulate Notepad++. It's a really good editor and I recommend you give it a shot, but truth be told - nothing holds candle to Notepad++.
And yes - there is a lot of stuff that anchors me to Windows, professional software being at the top of the list. Still, I manage two Ubuntu servers, so that surely counts for daily usage :D.

You know, I have to ask: Where did you get the 8350K with just 3 cores? Basically, there is no such thing, at least not officially as far as I know.
Did you intentionally disable one core to save some TDP because even if it has no turbo, 91W at full load can be a bit too much or something like that? Or is the rare case, where one core is dead and it still works, because you pumped too much voltage to get it to 5ghz? :D
Just curious.

Is a core i3 8350K with 1 disabled core and tdp is much lower than 91w (all cores + igp) in my case cpu only use 69w @ 5.0ghz
Respect vcore needs 1.400v for stability with less is possible but in demanding task crash

I saw! I'm waiting on a release of it, because I'm kind of in dependency hell getting a build environment for it.
Any word from ArenaNet about d9vk? I know Blizzard and others have been weird about dxvk. (Blizzard, at least, unbans quickly.)
See more from me
