Things seem to be moving quite quickly with Steam Play lately, with another new version now available.
Proton 4.2-2 was released early this morning with these changes:
- Corrected command line parameters for some games, including Wadjet Eye games like Blackwell Epiphany.
- Fixed some games failing or crashing in certain locales like Turkish.
- Updated FAudio to 19.03-25-g8105923.
- Fixed a crash when alt-tabbing out of Deus Ex.
- Restored previous .NET installer functionality.
You can find the changelog here any time.
Obviously this release is a lot smaller than others but not every release is going to be huge. The main point is how Valve and CodeWeavers are reacting quickly to user needs and issues that come up which is great.
Have you seen much improvements between Proton 3.16 and Proton 4.2? Do let us know in the comments.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Quoting: TorqachuI hope one day they resolve problem with CEG (warhammer 40000: space marine) and the FMV in darksiders warmastered edition.
So only the vanilla version of Darksiders and Darksiders 2 would be missing to have my entire collection of steam running in proton.
But with warmastered and deathinitive edition this is a minor problem.
It doesn't unfortunately, I tried yesterday. Cutscenes are still skipped. Though there is a report on warmastered proton page where a guy claims it was able to see them with a fix.
It's a shame actually apart form the cutscenes the game works flawless.

The major problem is still not fixed, just tested today by switching in SteamOS to desktop Modus then the issue does not exist mouse working perfect in the specific proton games. Back to bigpicture mode and the problem is back. I also tried to deactivate steam overlay, but the problem is still there so steam need to fix the bigpicture mode of SteamOS

I'm not sure we are talking about the same issue, I'm talking about this one:

It is the same, valve mentioned that they realized that there are two more problems releated to this issue, i think they fixed two but the this one is still not fixed. I have 2600 + games and in think around 200 to 300 of my games would work with Platin when this problem is fixed. Here an exact problem description. Mouse shows up and you can move around with no issue soon you press a button the position is reseted to a specific position and disappears. Only way to make the mousearrow visibel is to press any button on the mouse, from now one the mouse is only visible as long a button is pressed.

I finished my experiment with Murdered: Soul Suspect.
I ran the game on my other machine with Windows 7 SP1 and it doesn't crash when entering the graveyard.
So, or is a WINE issue or is a DXVK issue..

Don't bother reading this, I asked for help and then found the answer. Thanks.

Hmm. None of the Windows games I've tried seem to run under Proton 4.2.2, though they all work under Proton 3.16-8 which is the version I was using previously. They all fail to start, silently, with one exception.
The games I've tried are:
Steel Division: Normandy 44
No Man's Sky
Company Of Heroes
When I try to run Company of heroes, a dialog pops up saying "Error: Game is not being run as a Known Company Of heroes product. Try again by launching game from Steam."
Setting the global SteamPlay default back to Proton 3.16-8, or leaving the default at 4.2.2 and overriding it per game back to 3.16-8 allows the games to start.
Has anyone got any ideas about what's happening? I'm not really convinced that Steam ever actually downloaded Proton 4.2.2.
Any help appreciated. I'm using mainline Steam client, not the beta.
UPDATE:
I can see a bunch of old Proton dirs under ~/.steam/SteamApps/common but there is no dir for Proton 4.2.2! I guess I need a way to force Steam to download it.
UPDATE 2: I found a way to force a download, using Library->Tools and choose to install "Proton 4.2". Will report back if this fixes the issue I posted about, but for now I am optimistic.
UPDATE 3: Yeah, all good now.
