Super-retro looking horror title The Glass Staircase added official Linux support earlier this month and it looks pretty freaky.

Developed by Puppet Combo, they said they were inspired by older survival horror games like Silent Hill, Rule of Rose and the Clock Tower series. They also sprinkled in some inspiration from Italian zombie movies like Burial Grounds: Nights of Terror, House by the Cemetery and The Beyond (the 1981 film, not the newer sci-fi one of the same name).

What else the developer said about it:

Explore the rotting mansion on the English countryside as a number of young servants expansively! Who could guess what you might find in each decrepit room... Be very careful; you never know what might be lurking around every corner, just out of sight, quietly watching from the darkness. Use your eyes and ears as you explore, some notes or items may be hidden. Prepare a dark room for your time with The Glass Staircase. Don't rush yourself. Put yourself in the shoes of the girls you play as. None of them want to die.

I remember trying to play games like this many years ago, the style and atmosphere of them always freaked me out way too much and the visuals here really do remind me of them. Not something I'm really a fan of myself so I won't be playing it through but I'm sure some of our readers will enjoy know about this one.

If you're interested, it's available only on itch.io.

I always wish my heart and courage were strong enough to play horror games. Maybe in another life... although based on my luck probably in another life i would get to be a zombie xD

If you enjoy good SF story and don't mind some psychological horror elements in it you should try SOMA with the "safe mode" (which disable most of the "aggressive" encounters)! I'm not to much in horror too but the story that the game tell is (imho) worth every anguish that you may experienced in it. :)

Indeed ^_^ I loved playing the old PS1 games, especially Silent Hill. There was a point in that where I had the biggest jump I ever had playing a video game.

That was the last console I owned!
