Today, GOG officially announced Galaxy 2.0 and their aim seems to be to pull everyone together under one roof.

There are two things that matter to all of us gamers: the games we play and the friends we play them with. But as more titles come with dedicated launchers and clients, our games and gaming buddies become scattered in between them. With GOG GALAXY 2.0, you’ll be able to combine multiple libraries into one and connect with your friends across all gaming platforms!

It's like a much fancier version of Steam's own ability to add games installed from other sources, as Galaxy 2.0 will also support cross-launcher friends lists and chat making it sound pretty darn handy. They do also state you can "Connect more platforms and add new features with open-source integrations.". Those hoping that is some kind of olive branch being extended for Linux will likely be disappointed though, going by their FAQ on the newer dedicated Galaxy site it sounds more like it's simply for adding other services into the client itself for those GOG haven't yet done.

This would have been the perfect time to finally announce the ridiculously long-overdue Linux support for GOG Galaxy (especially with the Epic Store also not supporting Linux), sadly GOG are continuing to leave Linux out. In response to a user question on Twitter about Linux, the GOG team simply said "GOG GALAXY 2.0 will be available for Windows and Mac.". While an honest answer, it's also pretty blunt. No mention of it coming, just a whole lot of nothing.

It's worth noting the wishlist entry "Release the GOG Galaxy client for linux" on GOG's own website with over 21K votes, has been listed as "in progress" for a long time now (at least as far back as 2015 going by the Wayback Machine). You would think by now we would have had some sort of sign.

Considering even itch.io, a tiny little outfit has managed to support Linux really well with their open source client you would think after multiple years GOG would.

I've reached out to GOG, to see if they would like a chat about it. I will update if/when they reply.

I love GOG but this is another slap in the face as far as I see it. CDProjekt is an amazing company but the lack of support for Linux in any form (other than some games supporting it on the shop) makes me not even bother if the same title is on Steam. They have promised Linux support for way to long and basically backpeddle or go silent every chance they get.

It's unfortunate that they seem to lack the drive for Linux that Steam has shown as I think overall GOG Galaxy would be much more liked on Linux than it is even on Windows.

The whole DRM-Free advertising and using OSS goes a lot further with "OSS" supporters imo.

I know why I stopped buying from them quite a while ago...

I like the DRM-free, but I find it pretty annoying to be without cloud saves and efficient patch management. It makes it a hard choice which content delivery vendor to buy from.

CDProjekt should really work on their communication, to the world and internal too.

I had two different answers from @GOGcom and @GOGcomFR. The French twitter account for GoG say "GOG GALAXY sera disponible à la béta sur Windows et Mac ! =)" (GOG GALAXY 2.0 will be available on Windows and Mac for the beta) where as the english one answer "GOG GALAXY 2.0 will be available on Windows and Mac.". Wich is not quite the same thing.

I would tend to trust the english version better but who knows... This is kind of serious, you'd thought for such a big announcement community manager in every languages GoG support would have been heavily briefed on what to say and not say and how and what to answer to any questions.

GoG doesn't support Linux, so I don't support GoG. See how that works?

I hope they'll make Cyberpunk 2077 port, like they did with Witcher 2. Their launcher is cool, but to be honest, I can live without it. A lot of their games have Linux support, so... who cares about the launcher? I use only one PC, and I rarely do any "format" on my computer (especially when I switched to Linux), so I don't have any advantage from cloud save system anyway. It would be good for them, to create launcher for penguin, but is it really so much desired?

Do we really need it? Or they should make it just to be "linux friendly"? There're 1-3 percent Linux OS users in the world. There are Lutris, wonderful tool for all games from all platforms. If there would be GoG Galaxy it would be just "ok, thanks" from me, and then go back to Lutris.

When I read about the "community integration", I really thought they were hinting at Proton/Wine (among other things, of course). In a "we won't whitelist games like Steam but if people want to use the client to run things with a compatibility layer they can".

It was a long shot, but still a possibility until I saw the tweet saying the client won't even run on Linux. :/

Exactly that from me! Maybe I'm a little bit biased, because I'm form Poland, but really, I don't need Galaxy sooo much, that I could not live without it :D

I love GOG for their DRM-free-only policy and retro games library, but when it comes to Linux support Valve are the undisputed Crown Champion. I also like itch.io allot but they are in need of some serious renovation with their UI design, Cloud Saves and Achievements in their client.
