The Wine team have no time for hangovers, as work continues on towards the next major release with the Wine 4.8 development release now available.

What's new and improved with this latest tasty release:

  • Support building most programs in PE format.
  • Unicode data updated to Unicode 12.0.
  • Support for MSI patch files.
  • Default to non-PIC builds on i386.
  • Joystick support improvements.
  • Asturian locale.
  • Various bug fixes.

This time around a total of 38 grapes bugs have been squashed. Usual notice applies: some are older bugs being re-tested and fixed in a prior release. Looking over it issues have been solved with Star Citizen, World of Warships, Warframe, Test Drive Unlimited, Grand Prix Legends and more.

See the release announcement here.

For the reference, building wine-esync is quite easy now, since esync patches are included in Wine staging.

See: https://github.com/wine-staging/wine-staging/tree/master/patches/eventfd_synchronization

Example build script: https://gist.github.com/shmerl/baf82630e312c04e8910ca3081ab943f

The relevant part for applying the patches from staging:

./patchinstall.sh DESTDIR="$wine_src" eventfd_synchronization

Does this email actually go somewhere? The puns keep getting better.

If we could standardize WINE BOTTLE instead of "wine prefix" I would be so happy.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and if that's true then a WINE BOTTLE could be summed intuitively as app(s) in a bottle:

Edit: I would also accept Wine Container as a improvement on the iteration convention.

You could stay for the labour, grape season is drawing near by the day and all those grapes aren't going to be picked up by themselves :P

P.S: Picking grapes under a 40C degrees Sun in the middle of August, in Spain, is one of the hardest things I remember. Alongside with picking olives (usually beginning of winter and easily 0C degrees too, in the same region) xD
