Village Monsters from Josh Bossie, an open-ended village life game looks like it could be a lot of fun and it's coming to Linux.

Yet another game funded thanks to help on Kickstarter, a campaign we totally missed from 2017, you play as a Human moving into a community of "mostly" friendly monsters. This isn't your usual experience though, as the story goes Village Monsters is set inside the world of an abandoned video game. The idea sounds pretty amusing and I do love my casual games like Stardew Valley and Forager as much as more intense games, so Village Monsters mixing things up again should be interesting.

Sounds like it's going to be quite a big game overall with lots of moving pieces in a "living world", this includes changing weather and seasons, the usual expected laid-back fun like fishing and gardening, vast areas to explore outside of the village for the willing adventurer, your own house to fix-up and upgrade into something a little more homely, world-spanning puzzles and secrets to find. Oh, of course there's also the friendship system with each village monster having their own personalities, interests, and problems to solve.

Originally due for a release in October last year it was pushed back to this Spring, although the developer has decided to delay it again to the end of this year as it's just not ready. Good games take time of course, no one wants to play something rushed. Going by the comments the developer has made, it seems like an up to date demo might be available next month.

"...you play as a Human..."

Well, there goes about 20% of my interest.
