Wolfire Games, developer of titles like Overgrowth and Lugaru as well as being behind the original creation of the Humble Indie Bundle are now putting their games up on itch.io.

Interestingly, they did send a Twitter post out to announce it which they then removed. It said "Our official Wolfire store page on itch.io is open for business! You can buy Overgrowth, Receiver, and Lugaru HD there. You can also find a few of our free projects as well. Let us know if you have any feedback on the new store pages. Wolfiregames.itch.io". Not entirely sure why it was removed, as I personally think they should be proud of expanding their reach to another store like itch.

Store pages:

I had hoped more would follow along after Supergiant Games also recently put their games up on itch, as this slowly growing trend of more high-profile indies arriving on the friendly store-front is a good sign.

As a little teaser, on their main store page Wolfire Games mentioned they've been working on a "new unannounced commercial game" since around the end of 2017. No other details but interesting to know as a fan of their work.

Usual reminder here that itch do have an open source client, allowing you to download and keep your itch games up to date. It's handy, it works quite well and it looks good.

What a twist!

And some time ago have I considered getting Overgrowth from Humble Store!

Nice to see icth.io grow. Maybe, it can become something Humble Store failed to (namely, an indipendent DRM-free store, not a steam-key reseller).

Well, I don't think that's a huge surprise. After all, they are the ones that started Humble Bundle, and after they sold it a long time ago, why wouldn't they sell their games on a different store without DRM?

I hope so too, but there's nothing stopping publishers from using Itch.io as a Steam key reseller. See for example Plug in Digital, who have a vast number of "games" on Itch.io in the form of "How to get Steam Serial.pdf", and no other downloads.

As much as I like to see OG in new stores, not having access to the steam workshop (where all the mods are available) is a big downside, considering the community content is the strong part of this game.

I work at Wolfire, thought I'd clear up some ambiguity.

Wolfire never owned Humble Bundle to begin with. We helped create the first bundle, then Jeff and John left Wolfire to found the new company.

We've also been selling our games on Steam since 2012(ish?). Our games are DRM-free on there. You just need the Steam client to do the initial install, and to acquire Overgrowth mods from the Steam Workshop.

If you buy Overgrowth on itch.io you get a Steam key. It's more or less the same as Humble Bundle. You also can download the zip file, or install it using the Itch client (and get auto-updates if we ever release another patch).
