That's another tick for a game funded and coming to Linux! Supra Games managed to reach their funding goal on Kickstarter earlier this month for Supraland 2.

With a few days left of the crowdfunding campaign, which ends on July 31st, they've managed to get €26,404 which is quite a bit over their base goal. Nowhere near enough for their first stretch-goal, sadly, which was to pull in combat and narrative designers to help improve it.

As a reminder, Supraland (the first one) recently released for Linux. Never played it? The game is a first-person exploration and puzzle game, where you're running around in a literal garden sandbox. It's sweet, has a lot of fun ideas and it has a fun visual style to it. It's available on both Steam and GOG.

They're also working on a DLC for the first game called "The Crash", which should be releasing this year. Going by what the developer said on Steam, they're currently looking for people to help.

Hopefully the developer will be a bit more mindful of how they represent themselves, given their previous comments caused a bit of a ruckus. We all mess up though and say things in the heat of the moment, let's hope Supraland 2 development goes smoothly. I'm excited, the first one is a great game.

Really looking forward to it - wouldn't it be for epics bullshit in the last months that made me not consider crowdfunding anymore, i would've backed them instantly...the first one is a real masterpiece ^^

It seems the native version is only really bad on nvidia. While it was slower than proton, it was not "abysmal" for me on my rx580. IIRC it was around 100FPS with proton and around 60 on native.
But yeah, Epic should fix this as it really is far from acceptable for an engine of this scope

This game deserves much much more... what a shame. Seems like the game kinda fell under the radar. Probably the visuals give a wrong impression.

The performance is definitly not abyssmal. I get 45 fps on medium settings on an old 280X.

It wasn't much faster than that on my GTX 1080. On high I saw 35-70 fps in most areas and could hit as high as ~120 when staring at the floor. Definitely underwhelming performance for my beefy rig. I didn't test extensively, but lowering the settings didn't seem to significantly help. Maybe when I try it out on my RX 5700 XT it will be somewhat better.

I'm still glad he released a Linux version, and showed my support by backing Supraland 2.

While that may be true, I don't think this particular game is really a good demonstration of it. Even though Proton gives higher fps, the performance is still horrible for what it's doing. Especially on resolutions higher than 1080p. There are serious problems in this game that appear to be present on all platforms. They just hit Linux harder because it now drops below comfortable framerates.

Supraland uses vulkan. at least galium hud doesnt work, so it is not opengl

i tried it again and i have around 80-100 fps in the first bigger area, with a rx580 and valves ACO compiler

vsync makes performance worse, but "max fps 60" gives me 60fps

No need, NVidia overlay says it uses Vulkan.

As I said above, the reason that this game performs badly is rooted in much more fundamental problems.

As for which rendering API it's using, if for your HUD you need to pass a library to the game you're wanting to run it on, just because that fails to work doesn't mean it's not that API. Several things can interfere with passing the lib to the game executable which is why HUDs can be a pain to get working with some games. Unless you're sure that your HUD works in all OpenGL games no matter what, a better method to verify would be to uninstall Vulkan I'd think: https://linuxconfig.org/install-and-test-vulkan-on-linux
