EVERSPACE is probably one of my absolute favourite space shooters from the last few years, so I'm extremely excited to see EVERSPACE 2 be announced and confirmed for Linux.
For the Linux confirmation, I reached out on Twitter where the developer replied with "#Linux support scheduled for full release in 2021!".
It shall be continuing to use Unreal Engine, with a release on Steam first in Early Access next year. So while we won't be getting the early builds, we will at least see it at the final release which is awesome. Take a look at their trailer for it:
Direct Link
A key different between this and the first game, is that it's ditching the rogue-like die and repeat mechanics. Instead, it's going to be a full open-world exploration based story experience. Seems the combat it going to be very much like the original though, which makes me happy as it was intense!
Get ready to open your wallets, as they need a bit of funding. They're going to be heading to Kickstarter on September 9th.
Even though it's nowhere near finished, I think it looks pretty incredible.
You can now wishlist and follow it on the Steam page.
Oh my god... this looks soo incredibly good! Did you see the kraken?
Will see what they have playable on gamescom tomorrow!
I even brought a Movemaster :D
And there will be a Kickstarter campain starting on 9th september.

Big, big WOW from me! One I'm going to back on Kickstarter without hesitation!
Though the game did get a bit stale after a while, before that it was a blast to play.
Might give it another go in a while.

And given the first one still was fun to play, part two should be awesome ^^

Very welcome change! Looking forward to DRM-free Linux release. I'll back it if they'll crowdfund it with GOG release pledge.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I caution that this could become an Epic exclusive. I don't know if using the Unreal engine increases that potential or not.
Last time they promised Linux support they kept their promise against all difficulties! So there must be at least one Linux friendly alternative to EGS.

In the Steam Forums they answered this with "It's announced for Steam and coming to Steam Early Access :)"
Damn ... I still haven't played the first one.

If the open world is done well (easily the hardest thing in all-space-dom), this will be a real gem. Absolutely will back.
