Valve along with CodeWeavers today issued a small and focused update to Proton, the software behind Steam Play.
Proton 4.11-2 arrives just over a week after the major update that 4.11 was and it includes these changes:
- Update DXVK to v1.3.2.
- Update FAudio to 19.08.
- Update wine-mono to 4.9.2. This is known to fix DARK and DLC quest.
- For high framerate displays, also report a 60 FPS mode, for older games that require it.
- Earth Defense Force 5 and Earth Defense Force 4.1 will no longer freeze when prompted to input text.
Since DXVK was previously at version 1.3, this should hopefully be quite a nice improvement for various games and performance. As always, you may find the full changelog here.
Do let us know in the comments how you get on.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
I am hoping they can get enough performance so I can finally play Elite:Dangerous in VR. Windows for me keeps crashing in VR (not just Elite). Would love not to have to reboot to play.

I wish I had the hardware to play ED in VR...

"FAudio"
Hope this helps Skyrim SE.
It already runs fine with Proton 4.11, but I still need to restart game sometimes because it looses sync.

A thing that mades me happy, and a little sad is that proton runs unity games better than the native.
A lot games that don't recognize my controller, works flawlessly in Proton

Wait. This version of FAudio is compiled with ffmpeg? So I can do this now without compiling it on my own?

The fix for DXVK is interesting for Dishonored 2 which was broken with 4.11-1.

Interesting side effect: looks like the steam client is aware of all available Proton versions, no matter if a particular version is installed or not. At least I could select 4.11-2, but it wasn't installed at all (4.2 was installed). So a game with force-selection 4.11 wasn't starting anymore, and I was pretty confused. Until I realized I had to install it manually from the tools section.
