Geneshift is really looking slick with the latest major update now available, completely overhauling the menu and the way you unlock everything. Overall, it's a huge improvement.
Note: While a large focus recently has been on the multiplayer with the Battle Royale mode, the game still has the singleplayer and co-op campaign which is a lot of fun.
The original menu system in Geneshift looked a little dated and confusing, that's being quite kind as well I think. It's been thrown away and entirely re-done and it looks very modern. Just look at how slick the new interface is, everything about it is incredibly clear:
The experience points and unlocking system has also been overhauled. While it was made a little clearer in previous updates it still felt a bit too unwieldy and just not clear enough. That's all changed now.
Your level is now displayed in-game so others know it, this also represents how much XP others get for taking you down. So you can show off your level, while others also know if you're a good bounty. The actual level up system is a bit more standard now too. You level up normally with XP, gaining "Kill Coins" to unlock items with and you also gain them from doing challenges.
Part of the previous system confusion and frustration was having to discover items before you could unlock them. Frankly, that made it quite unfair as you might put 30 hours in and not find what you want. That's been thrown away (hooray!).
So now, you just level up, spend your earned coins to unlock whatever you want in this cool new style:
Another major change is a personalized difficulty system for the bots:
One fun new way to earn extra XP is by playing on a harder difficulty level. This will result in facing more difficult but also higher level bots, and these higher level bots will award more XP whenever you kill them. The cool thing about this new difficulty mechanic is that it is personallised just to you, so you can choose to play on Insane difficulty, whie someone else in the server can play on Standard. This allows veteran players to have a challenge and farm bonus XP without forcing newbies to die to aimbots.
There's plenty of other smaller changes that made it into this big 1.20 release as well. Including: the game actually logs you in when you open it no, no manual log in needed; around 50 new challenges; the single-player campaign can be played on any difficulty; a new player stats page to show total kills, deaths and so on. See the full release notes here.
I already enjoyed the game a lot, it's a ridiculous amount of fun and can be very frantic. It's now easier than ever to recommend picking it up.
You can find it on Steam where it's 40% off until September 9th. Not sold on it yet? The good news is that it also has a demo version, which does allow you to play online with others.
If i'm correct, the base game is free, with multiplayer and demo solo first campaign level.
To get more, i have to buy the "DLC" Complete Edition.
Now, there is a nice deal on the game via Steam :
