How do you like your news in the morning? I like mine open source with coffee. Today, a game called Rapid Rescue came across the GOL news-desk built with Godot Engine.

Developed by Arran, they said on Twitter they've been working on this for over a year and they've now put it up on GitHub under a GPL v3 license for others to contribute to and learn from.

Rapid Rescue is a local multiplayer strategy game inspired by Labyrinth, one where each turn the players place down a tile on the board to create a path for their boat to rescue stranded people. The first player to save five people wins.

The idea is simple but quite sweet. Using tiles you're given, each player takes turns to place them down on one of the arrows which shifts the board around. You need to do this to create a path for your boat, to actually reach the little stranded person represented by a little coloured ball.

Simple controls too, move tiles around with the mouse and use the right mouse button to rotate the tile. When ready, left mouse button to place it down. Will be interesting to see if this continues being developed, love the idea and presentation here.

Since there was no prebuilt version of it available when checking, I went ahead and grabbed a copy of Godot Engine and exported it to Linux for you to give it a quick try. I have to hand it to the Godot Engine team, they really do make it easy with a few button clicks. You can download it here and find the source on GitHub. Updated: a pre-built version is out now.

This was a surprise to see, thanks for writing about my game!

I'm planning to release a build on GitHub soon, with a user interface and all that fun stuff.
