Developer Indoor Astronaut announced yesterday that their amusing and chaotic track building game Unrailed! now has a Beta available for Linux players to try out.

Unrailed! is a chaotic online and couch co-op multiplayer railroad construction game where you work together with your friends as a team to build a train track across endless procedurally generated worlds. Master encounters with its inhabitants, upgrade your train and keep it from derailing!

They announced this quietly on Steam, so I took the plunge and picked up a personal copy to try out. So far, so good! The tutorial worked perfectly, performance seems fine too and it seems like a genuinely fun game idea. Can certainly see why it has a "Very Positive" user rating on Steam.

I managed to test a game online too, so cross-platform multiplayer does seem to work nicely.

The latest experimental build which has the Linux version includes more than just ports. They've also added in checkpoints and a save system, allowing you to save and quit at each station. The Hardcore mode disables checkpoints.

You can pick up a copy of Unrailed! on Humble Store and Steam.

Nice. This does look like fun for multiplayer.

I have been waiting so much for this! It looks like a very fun couch game for my steam machine and a couple of friends.

Did anyone try this on Mesa? Or Intel cards specifically? I bought it right now to try (and refund if not working) when I get a new disk that can fit all of these Linux games I have.

Can someone share the instructions on how to access this from Discord? I'd like to avoid closed platforms whenever practical. :D

They can change it at any time though so be quick?

So they now shared the beta key at Steam discussions as well. They also mentioned that only Ubuntu 18.04 is officially supported, with Ubuntu 16.04 known to be broken currently.
