Proton GE, the unofficial and updated build of Proton for Steam Play has another big new release out. To help those who can't wait for Valve/CodeWeavers to update the official Proton or you need some extra fixes.
With Proton-4.19-GE-1 now available it includes updated builds of DXVK, D9VK, FAudio and Vkd3d. On top of that, it's also pulled in patches to help with GTA V and the Rockstar Launcher, a patch to help with Origin client downloads, patches to fix Skyrim SkyUI status effect icons, patches to help Mortal Kombat 11 run (although online matches won't work) and more.
As a reminder, installing a custom Steam Play compatibility tool like Proton GE is actually pretty easy. Download the release and extract the contents of it into this folder:
~/.steam/root/compatibilitytools.d/
For the newer Linux gamer: a folder with a dot at the start is hidden. Press CTRL + H to toggle hidden files and folders on/off.
Reload Steam, right click on a game and go to Properties and then at the bottom it's shown here allowing you to select it. That really is all you need to do.
You can see more about Proton GE on the GitHub page.
Quoting: KimyrielleWait, you can run Origin in Proton? I had no idea! Is there a guide for this, people could point me to? I used to run it in Lutris, but their installer has been broken for months now.I haven't tried Origin with Proton but this did the trick for vanilla wine for me.
Quoting: magiHas anyone tried running Red Dead Redemption 2 from Rockstar Games Launcher through this? I haven't seen anyone who's been succesful in running the game on Linux yet :/
isnt the rockstar launcher the problem again?
also the game seems very buggy from what i read.... so wait til the fix it and buy it on steam
Quoting: KuJoCurrently the tarball is broken. When I open it I get an empty archive.
Does anyone else have it?
I have the same problem. What's the error?
Quoting: leillo1975It's less of an error I found. Rather the archive program contained in my distribution (Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon) is probably not able to handle this archive.Quoting: KuJoCurrently the tarball is broken. When I open it I get an empty archive.

I then installed another archive program for testing purposes. In my package sources I found "xarchiver" (V 0.5.4.12) and installed it. So I could open the archive - and btw, got GTA V working again. :)

I spoke to Glorious Eggroll. He had to remove it because of some legality issues with z0z0's mfplat.dll patch. He said he is fixing some bugs and will upload the new 4.20 soon
See more from me
