How much was the controller with this discount? As they don't ship here I can't even see the price in the store

Somewhere in Europe (idk what zone I qualify as) it was:
54,99€ 5,50€ for the SC
21,99€ 2,20€ for the SC carrying case

I'm pretty sad I missed the SC carrying case. I was waiting for any discount on it for years for my 3 Steam Controllers. I would've paid the full price if I had known they can go out of stock before the collapse of society or the collapse of Valve or the heat death of the Universe (whichever happens first).

Sorry, neither DDG nor Google is being helpful in this. What currency is that? Also I presume "450,00" is 450 money units, but I wouldn't be surprised for cultural differences and 45000 actually.

I've promised myself I will finish the first two tomb raiders before trying the 3rd, I haven't even loaded up RotTR.. lol

Also no Heavy Metal DLC discounts for BT, shame.

Same here. Although the two I have are working as good as the day I got them, and I got one of those the month before the official release because I pre-ordered it. At $5 how can I not? I can't ever see playing any other way ever again.

I bought the Steam Controller again a few months ago with Sekiro to give it another try. The first one went to the trash after I was unable to play a game with it.

Unfortunately, after trying and giving it a honest try, I still just cant play with the Steam Controller. I lack feedback with the touch thingy and therefore shooters and third person games are impossible to play.

Maybe if I tried for days on end for 3 months I might get used to it, but that is way too much time to learn a new controller.

So I went back the the XONE controller in the end. Don't fix what ain't broken IMHO.

I know a common issue people have with the Steam Controller is not taking proper advantage of the accelerometer. People try to use the touchpads to take the place of mouse control in situations where the accelerometer works better. Of course it doesn't seem to be for everyone, and it takes some getting used to.

I once had a Microsoft Sidewinder Dual Strike controller, and other people tried it and thought I was crazy to use it. I played through Half-Life in its entirety with that controller, though. I actually quite liked it. The digital thumb stick (which I used for movement, like WASD keys with a mouse/keyboard set up) broke on it, and I repaired it. I continued to use it until the microswitches for the buttons started to go bad. Of course there was no replacement available. I think controllers with an accelerometer to take the place of mouse aiming, like the Steam controller, are probably the closest thing to a replacement for it now.

Edit: I wanted to add that I haven't really used a Steam Controller because I haven't taken the time to set it up and get used to it. I've now used a mouse and keyboard so much that I don't have the same degree of desire to have a controller to control first person shooters that I had back in 1999. I still plan on trying it though because there are certain advantages to playing by feel with a controller over a keyboard (i.e., you're less likely to hit the wrong button when under pressure with a controller).

I have an Nvidia Shield and a PS4... I always preferred the Steam Controller to any of these. Sad to see them go. Hope to see a V2.0 soon. :'(

At least, I have 3 of them... I'm good for a long time. :)

That looks SO MUCH like the experience of some Windows people when trying Linux. Instead if trying to learn a new ooerational system, they try to use Linux the same way they used Windows. Which is of course doomed to failure with 100% certainty. And then they cry around and write articles telling the world how lame Linux is. Seems to be the same you are doing to the steam controller. You tried to use it as a mere gamepad and -- or course -- failed. Let me hint you that if used correctly, it can fit every single type of game, from simulators to arcades, from click and point to RTS.

A small question from your testimony tho: you said you miss the feedback from using the joystick in FPS. How do you deal with the springy joystick to aim? Don't you get irritated in trying to fixate the cursor in a point and it trying to leave that point?

Playing a shooter with a stick to aim... Yuk! Much better with SC touchpad in Mouse mode or, even better, with the Gyroscope for precise aiming. I've gotten through all of Half Life series, Metro games, Wolfenstein, Doom and Bioshocks with the Steam controller. I'm a headshot collector with the Gyro! Playing a shooter with a classic gamepad, without aiming help is a thing that drives me crazy. I'll switch back to K+M before using a stick. But hey! That's just me. :)

Edit 1: The only kind of games where a classic controller is having a slight advantage, imo, is in 3rd person games, when you need to look around you while moving. Even then it's quite playable with a Steam Controller.

Edit 2: This and the fact that the DS4 and Xbox One controllers are coming with a 3.5mm jack. :)

What do you mean with springy joystick? I can't remember having issues aiming or the controller/aim drifting of when I focus on a point on the screen.

And you are right, and I read it everywhere as well, you need to tweak the controller per game for the best experience, but I just want to launch a game and it just has to work perfect out of the box. I don't want to tweak my controller per game for the right settings.

So in that, I guess the controller just is not for me.

Totally right. You are denying yourself of the main Steam Controller advantage... Tweaking. That's exactly what makes it so awesome. Definitely not for you, then.

But I have to admit that the Steam Controller's Joystick emulation, with a trackpad, is garbage... Much better to start with a standard Xbox controller setup and modify the right trackpad to be used as a mouse or a joystick in mouse mode, imo.

Exactly! Right thumb on the trackpad activates the gyroscope (even that is configurable). You may even make it a steering wheel for a racing game! Did it for Dirt and Grid games.

Thing is, there are many community created templates that you don't need to tweak... Just a quick search should be enough to load one that fits your needs.

Despite reports on here that there were no more controllers, I was able to get one for $5 ($15 after shipping) just now. The page for it still says "Limited stock available"

Here it says "Limited quantity remaining" but
"Out of stock" on the buy button.

Maybe they assign you to a certain logistics center depending on your location
and that stock is what counts?
