Cradle Games recently put out some fresh exciting details for Hellpoint, their upcoming crowdfunded dark sci-fi action RPG.

Firstly, it seems the release has been pushed back a while. They were aiming for this year but they're just not going to hit it. They've been going through console certification, along with doing regular updates to the PC Beta and they're now saying it's going to be sometime in "Q1 2020" for Hellpoint's release.

The latest video talking about it was a developer diary back in August, which is quite a while to not get any new info. Thankfully, they did just recently put up a news post on Steam finally going into some brief details about the main character and it sounds very interesting:

You are a Spawn: a 3D-printed organism, an artificial human being. You were granted a life, yet not a consciousness, by your creators. With a blank mind, you venture through Irid Novo, an ancient asteroid mining facility turned into a space station, seeking answers. Why are you here? What is your purpose?

Also mentioned in the update are Breaches, "tears in the very fabric of time and space that interconnect parallel universes". They seem to act like both a spawn point and a fast travel system, while also allowing you to alter enemy difficulty / loot grade and save your progress. There is going to be a progression system too, so you can upgrade your character with 8 different skills. It was also confirmed in a Steam comment that there's some customization in too, with different armour sets.

When speaking to Cradle Games earlier this year, they confirmed Linux support was still happening. You can wishlist and follow it on Steam.

From the videos it looks waaaaaay more like a dark fantasy RPG/slasher than sci-fi. Not so many aesthetic elements you'd expect in such games (like DOOM: sci-fi with demons). Still, looks interesting. Wishlisted.

This could be quite good. I hope I don't have to cringe at ugly world textures after it's released. Gameplay is absolutely most important, yet with so much competition for my free time, it's nice when the game looks new, too. The main character model and animation looked fine in the August video to me. Some of the world graphics were bad.

The gameplay styles they talk about are right up my alley. Like I said, this could be quite good!
