You have to hand it to the developers at Beamdog, they certainly support their revamped RPG classics for a long time. Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition just got a big update too!
The 1.79 stable patch is live and it comes alongside the launch of Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch and so Beamdog have enabled PC (Linux, macOS and Windows) online cross-play with Xbox (in January) and Switch (live now) but not the PS4.
Multiplayer as a whole got some big improvements too apart from cross-play. Lots of new security improvements to prevent traffic snooping with full network encryption, better use of compression, no more host/port confusion when connecting multiple times from behind the same LAN, servers can have fixed identities between restarts so that floating IP/port servers can be found again easily and more.
Not just that, a healthy dose of new features also made it into this release. For starters, both the client and server are now 64bit as Beamdog say they're not doing 32bit anymore at all and the old Bioware Campaign Database has been replaced with a much more modern sqlite3 to work with the 64bit changes. There's also a NWSync UI in the menu, to allow you to remove downloaded data you no longer want.
For the Steam version, they added Achievements! If you're an achievement hunter on the look out for more there's 42 of them to get.
A new configuration system is now used, replacing the old ini files. Also for those of you who like to play with it a bit more, Beamdog added in a debug UI to give you access to some experimental new features. This is available by pressing Ctrl+Shift+F12 and there's lots to play with there, including all the options for the new config system.
You can pick up Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition from GOG and Steam.
Any news on if/when PS4 will get cross platform play?

I was only too happy to purchase another copy of the game I probably have played more hours than any other game (the Dominions series is the only other contender) from Beamdog, and their devotion to the game and to their customers puts them at the tippy-top of my list of favorite game developers.
I've never even played MP, and there are lots of current PW servers.
I have always called NWN "The Most Game You Can Get In A Box," and the hundreds of free high-quality adventures and mods have kept this game alive.
According to Newsweek, D&D is all about the sex Dungeons.
I decided GOG should be dead to me as a Linux user until they can work out that we also should be getting automatic updates. Over the long weekend I went to play Battletech, had seen the new DLC onsale on GOG and figured I would snag it there instead of Steam. Not only did I have to re-download the whole game, but also an individual 1mb file for each DLC. Talk about annoying.
Quoting: oldrocker99I've been playing NWN since 2002, first on WinXP, then the only purchasable game I had which ran on Linux, since 2008, with its still-working Linux client. What is weird is I also bought it direct from them, but can no longer get their client to run. Not sure what is causing their AppImage to fail, but it is a good thing I got a Steam key from them. (This is the single most purchased game of mine. Having personally bought close to 10 copies of it over the years for various friends and family.

Here is hoping the PS4 version gives us cross platform play, because I don't want to buy a Seitch and the game for my Brother too haha
Quoting: Liam DaweSony have kind of been jerks about that, though I think DC Universe by them is one of the few truly cross platform games. But I know there have been others which should have been cross platform, but were not on Sony Systems.Quoting: slaapliedjeAny news on if/when PS4 will get cross platform play?I guess that largely depends on Sony...
Anymore they are all basically just computers, which is why we see so many PC ports to the various consoles. It isn't quite like it used to be where they had completely different hardware. Even the Switch is just an nVidia Shield with cool controllers and a different OS.
Quoting: slaapliedjeIt's definitely not all games. I remember playing against PSN players in Rocket League WAY back while I was on PC.Quoting: Liam DaweSony have kind of been jerks about that, though I think DC Universe by them is one of the few truly cross platform games.
