You have to hand it to the developers at Beamdog, they certainly support their revamped RPG classics for a long time. Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition just got a big update too!

The 1.79 stable patch is live and it comes alongside the launch of Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch and so Beamdog have enabled PC (Linux, macOS and Windows) online cross-play with Xbox (in January) and Switch (live now) but not the PS4.

Multiplayer as a whole got some big improvements too apart from cross-play. Lots of new security improvements to prevent traffic snooping with full network encryption, better use of compression, no more host/port confusion when connecting multiple times from behind the same LAN, servers can have fixed identities between restarts so that floating IP/port servers can be found again easily and more.

Not just that, a healthy dose of new features also made it into this release. For starters, both the client and server are now 64bit as Beamdog say they're not doing 32bit anymore at all and the old Bioware Campaign Database has been replaced with a much more modern sqlite3 to work with the 64bit changes. There's also a NWSync UI in the menu, to allow you to remove downloaded data you no longer want.

For the Steam version, they added Achievements! If you're an achievement hunter on the look out for more there's 42 of them to get.

A new configuration system is now used, replacing the old ini files. Also for those of you who like to play with it a bit more, Beamdog added in a debug UI to give you access to some experimental new features. This is available by pressing Ctrl+Shift+F12 and there's lots to play with there, including all the options for the new config system.

You can pick up Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition from GOG and Steam.

Quoting: slaapliedjeAny news on if/when PS4 will get cross platform play?
I guess that largely depends on Sony...
Sony have kind of been jerks about that, though I think DC Universe by them is one of the few truly cross platform games. But I know there have been others which should have been cross platform, but were not on Sony Systems.
It's definitely not all games. I remember playing against PSN players in Rocket League WAY back while I was on PC.
Yeah, so here's hoping it gets it. Kind of want to start up a server again and get a group together to play through some modules.

I tried doing that in Docker long ago and I couldn't get the main campaign to work. Perhaps that's by design...? I was trying to use assets from my Steam game folder.

If I recall, you had to feed the cd key to it way back when. Not sure about the Enhanced Edition.

https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/neverwinter-nights-enhanced-edition does list cross-platform multiplayer. Guess I'll find out today when I get it for the PS4. I can't get my Switch to connect to my network correctly, so am waiting on the USB ethernet adapter to test that out. Will report back my findings if PS4 - Switch - Linux can all play in the same game :)

Stinking Fedex. Ordered a copy for me and my brother. My brother got his, I have to wait another day. Granted the last time I ordered us both a PS4 game, he got his a day later.

So reporting back;
PS4 version after installation installs another 3.8gb of stuff, and yet doesn't contain the Infinite Dungeons module, and currently will not let you join a LAN game (there were three servers running when I looked at the server list).

On the Switch, with the physical copy, I still had to go to the eShop to download the Premium Modules, which don't include the Infinite Dungeons again...

But at least with the Switch I was able to host the main campaign on my Linux desktop (through the client, haven't tried dedicated server) and join it.

From what I saw on one site, the patch for PS4 / Xbox One is supposed to be released in January. I guess we should probably contact Beamdog or whomever did the console ports to clarify this.

Also need to figure out how/if you can install custom mods on the consoles, since who wants to be limited to the small amount of premium content when there are tons and tons of free content for the game? I Also tried the Android version to join, but it kept timing out trying to connect to my desktop.

Edit: here is the reasoning for missing Infinite Dungeons on consoles (though as I point out, Android has it) https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/comment/1108148?

Well, that is a bummer about Infinite Dungeons. I've never played it, but it always stinks to run into a brick wall that doesn't have anything on the other side.
