Much like what Hinterland did with The Long Dark's Time Capsule, you can now try out older versions of Dead Cells at any time if you dislike changes made over time.
They're calling this the Legacy Update, something they say they wanted to do for a long time because the experience drastically changes between major releases. So now, if you have it on Steam, you can select any version from the first build of Early Access right up to present (using the Beta opt-in system) and they will continue adding to it as new versions release.
I think it's a really nice gesture for developers to do this, too many games change completely from what you first purchase and they can end up losing what you originally loved about them.
Another handy update to the Steam version, is that it will now create a backup of your saves. So if Steam Cloud screws up, it shouldn't entirely lose your save—hooray! I hope more games do this.
That's not all though, with this update they also added in the Ice Shield item and Ice Armor skill and they reworked the 3 most hated weapons to bring some more balance but they didn't name them directly. New Mutations were also added in:
- Frostbite a new survival mutation, has been added, turning the "slowed" status into a dot in addition to its usual effect.
- Cold Blood, a survival mutation, has been added. Reduces cooldown when you melee hit a slowed, rooted or frozen mob.
If you're feeling festive still, there's also a Christmas skin now with a "Santa (jolly fat drunk man) skin". Full patch notes can be found here.
Want to grab a copy of Dead Cells? You should, it's awesome! It's available from: Humble Store - GOG - Steam.
But, how does it work with the GOG version? I hope it not depends on Galaxy and the Linux version will be able to have it.
