Tooth and Tail, a brilliant real-time strategy game released back in 2017 from Pocketwatch Games continues seeing upgrades to make it appeal to even more people.

An RTS where you are a character in the field, you're the flag-bearer directing your troops around as you run through all the destruction. It's pretty damn clever actually, with a full story-based single-player campaign and cross-platform online play there's a lot to enjoy about it. Especially with gamepad support, really easy to get into. Not seen it before? Trailer is below as a refresher:

Recently an update went live tweaking it, so that you can adjust the difficulty before starting a mission in the campaign. Some of them really can be difficult, so that's a nice touch for anyone who struggled to pick it up and get back into it. Being able to change the difficulty between missions is something I wished more games did, although perhaps not always feasible with how games are often designed. This certainly makes me appreciate Tooth and Tail more.

On top of that there's now Steam Workshop modding support for multiplayer, numerous unit balance changes, a ladder reset as Season 4 has started for online competitive play and a couple of smaller improvements like letting you access the Options Menu without leaving a lobby or queue for online play. Great to see Tooth and Tail supported for so long after release.

You can find Tooth and Tail for Linux on Humble Store where it's currently 71% off for their Winter Sale, or on Steam.

I got it when it was first released. Unfortunately I suck at RTS games so I got completely stuck around mission 7 or thereabouts. I haven't played it since. I might pick it up again, now that I know I can continue.

I tried for a bit, but unfortunately they really messed up the procedural generation in this one.

It is a perfect example of how not to do randomness in games.
The same mission might be a total breeze or almost impossible, simply based on where you start in relation to your mission objectives and the enemy.
I went through a bunch of missions and the difficulty was all over the place. It went from extremely easy, to super hard, to back again. And when I had to do a mission again, the next time it was super easy, as the map generation had placed me right next to where I needed to be. Or it got even harder, as the enemy was put right between me and where I needed to be.
