Feral Interactive, the porting studio behind a lot of great games available on Linux are asking for some feedback again on where they should go next.

In the past, they've teased how they feed port requests into "THE REQUESTINATOR". Looks like my number three from when they asked in November 2018 turned out okay with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. As always though, we want additional ports to buy and more varied titles to play through.

On Twitter today they posted this:

What game would you like to be ported to macOS, Linux or mobile platforms in 2020, and why?

Is there a game in dire need of porting? Let us know why it’d be perfect on your favourite platform and your answer could feature in our next newsletter: https://feralinteractive.com/xx/register/

Feral have already ported a ton of games to Linux including Alien Isolation, Life Is Strange, Before the Storm, Life is Strange 2, Mad Max, Total War: THREE KINGDOMS (and many other Total War titles), XCOM and XCOM 2 plus more. Their work is great, especially now they're all-in with Vulkan the performance is great too so more would be thoroughly welcome.

How about you mention your top three most wanted Linux ports in the comments? I'll start:

  1. MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD
  2. DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT
  3. Borderlands 3

Right now, those three would be seriously good to have properly supported on Linux. As for the why? Well, 1+3 are already massively popular games and with Borderlands 3 coming to Steam this year, it would be a nice surprise. As for Dragon Ball, I'm a huge fan of it and having such a game ported and supported on Linux would be a huge boon.

Quoting: SalvatosWell holy shit, if Horizon:Zero Dawn is coming to Steam I definitely want Feral to port it now!

Agreed. For many reasons! Even though I've seen the entire game on live stream, I'd still pay full price to Feral for a Linux port without blinking. The game is that good. Feral ports are fantastic. But most importantly, it would be a different source than where Feral currently ports from. And that's something I would like to see more than any specific game.

That, and if Sony decides to open up more and release more games on PC, it would be excellent for Feral to build a relationship with them early! After all, I can’t imagine Sony would be opposed to keeping some of the PC sales away from Microsoft’s ecosystem :)

And I’m with you there, I’ve already beaten the game twice on a borrowed console and I’ll still gladly pay full price to have it on PC the moment it comes out. I didn’t play the DLC, so that’s a good excuse for a fresh playthrough :D

Well.. Naughty Dog is looking for a developer with Vulkan / DX12 expertise...

Quoting: dvdNot everyone wants to play with wine.

But it will be commercially more pertinent for Feral to make a Linux port from a game that is not working with Wine.

If that were true, their whole operation would have had to be in the red for the last few years. All the games i have from Feral worked with wine before they were ported. But having a port was always better than wine, even in cases like Hitman, that had some teething issues with the graphics.

Are you sure? It's not a long time Wine + DXVK support correctly Tomb Raider last episodes, Life is Strange 1/2, Middle-earth™: Shadow of Mordor™, DEUS EX....All this games was not very well supported by Wine when Feral port them natively on Linux.

How would a link for an "if it were true..." look like?

It's logic: If porting games that work on WINE wouldn't be viable for them, then they would have stopped quite some time ago already.

Curious, i played LiS using wine before the port came out. I don't remember any game breaking bugs, apart from the occasional lag that was due to my laptop being ancient at the time. I can't speak for the rest, since i did not play them with wine, however i can say i wouldn't have bought either of them were it not for Feral interactive properly porting and supporting them. ( Only game i bought without port is Hitman 2 since i really really like Hitman and assumed it would get a feral port after they ported the first episode, but that's my bad. ) Maybe i'm doing something wrong, but apart from the very earliest linux ports (like portal 1 and 2) i have never ran into any compatibility problems with linux ports in the last 3-4 years whereas with wine (which i seldomly use) i usually run into some of the usual problems like alt-tab not working, games not exiting well, sound breaking.
