It's finally here! We're bringing back the GamingOnLinux GOTY Awards we did a few years ago, so it's time to get nominating.

How it usually works is we have this dedicated GOTY Page, you pick a category and then search for a game in the box at the top to nominate it in that category. You can nominate as many as you wish, as long as they fit within the category.

Once enough time has passed we will then lock down nominations, clear up any in the wrong place and open it for voting in around a week or two.

FAQ:

  • What if I don't find what I want? There's links to submit the game/software directly to us below the search box in each category.
  • Do Proton/Steam Play or Google Stadia games count? No, the whole point of this is to appreciate those putting time and effort into supporting Linux as a desktop platform. That's not up for discussion, sorry and comments arguing it will be removed.
  • When will nominations close and voting start? February 1st.
  • Why is this for 2019 - it's 2020? We run ours when 2019 is actually over, to allow all games to be in for a chance to win a category. It makes it fair.
  • x released in 2018 for Windows and 2019 for Linux, does it count? Yes, go by the Linux release date. If in doubt, use the search to see if we have an article on it.

See the GOTY Awards Page here.

Thank you! After some polish this database will definitely come in handy.

Just a reminder folks, if a category has a year on it to read the description. We're getting a number of people seemingly blindly nominating anything possible. If it's a 2019 category, a game from 2013 is not eligible.

Can we add tags too? I missed IF aka interactive fiction (especially since there is a storytelling category)

Can you rephrase that? I don't understand the question.

Two possible improvement for the pages:
* Have a "go to next caategory" button on the category pages.
* It is absolutely mandatory that "Absolute favourite game for Linux" comes last, not first! :p

One more thing, I'm unclear about
"What is your favourite game that has seen support for a long time on Linux?"
Does the "support for a long time" mean something like continual updates,
or is it just about the all-time favorite on Linux?

Will think on those.

Sure :) There is no way to add tags (at least I don't see one). Since one of the category is "best storytelling", I thought it may make sense to have some related tags, for example IF, interactive fiction.

Edit: I see there is a genre "text adventure", this covers the use-case as well, I guess.
