Hey, got any…grapes? Another development release for the compatibility layer Wine is out today, following their regular release cycle we have Wine 5.3.
Here's the highlights:
- More work towards Ucrtbase runtime support.
- Full support for Unicode normalization.
- Improvements in Shell Folders handling.
29 bugs were also found to be solved as of this release, some being older bugs fixed in previous versions of Wine that have now been checked off the list. These fixed bugs include less issues for: Far Cry 5, Gothic II: Night of the Raven, a fix for multiple installers crashing, Detroit: Become Human, Warhammer Online, Age of empires III and the list goes on.
The Wine project sure is coming along, amazing work from all the contributors making Linux as useful as possible for people of all types for all sorts of usage from games to applications.
See the full release announcement here.
.. No we DONT have any grapes!

Wine fuckyeah! u did it, major improvement XD
EDIT: No, it's not still going. They must be continuing the support so that people can play Return of Reckoning, the private server that looks to still be alive. That's... kind of surprising, but cool to see Wine support that!

Yes its still going in Return Of Reckoning. It had bright ground texture issue due weird sRGB format used and it required d3dx9_34.dll which i reported to wine about month ago. Paul Gofman did the fixes, so its all nice now :)
Have been playing it a lot under linux. No crashes, no issues, while hearing all windows users have troubles :D

Recently, I have tried the Proton custom releases from Glorious Eggroll (GitHub, and I'm actually surprised on the improvements they can bring in games.
I used to have no audio at all with games such as Vampyr (GOG release) with standard Wine or Proton, and these custom enhancements have definitively fixed it.
I'm honestly pretty excited on riding this current wave of experiments and tuning for improving your gaming experience, in a way to make it the safest possible for yourself. Looking forward to the next improvements that these technologies would bring!
