Even though it's been around since 2012, the popularity of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive continues as it today hit a new all-time high for players online.
Not too surprising though, since it went free to play back in 2018 which gave it quite a big boost along with the Danger Zone game mode. The previous player record for CS:GO (according to SteamDB) was set in 2016 at 850,485 with the latest peak hitting 876,575 a few hours ago. It's not a big jump from the previous record but for a game of this age it's still quite impressive.
Why is it hitting new highs? It could be popularity in China, the continuing growth of Steam itself or the recent new Operation Shattered Web which gave CS:GO a Battle Pass system with weekly missions (which is quite fun!). Perhaps even due to the recent news of Valve working to reduce toxic behaviour? More people may return in the hopes of it being more fun.

Recently on Linux I had a problem with CS:GO, where it would crash on launch constantly. Sometimes it would suddenly work but it was a hassle. If you have the issue too, try unplugging any gamepads or add "-nojoy" as a launch option which has seemed to fix it for me.

It is definitely a bug in the Linux Build of the game, any one else also experiencing this issue should create a game specific discussion for it if doesn't exist yet to let Valve Developers know.
I've CSGO since the launch, but I played it just a few months ago, because of the big championship that CSGO have, it's so much enjoyable, to be fair I prefer to watch some matches of cs go than other sports on tv.
ESL and Blast are to awesome championship on twitch right now.
I just wished the performance would be comparable to the windows version... I remember getting about 300fps before switching to Linux and now I'm around 100. I mean, playable, but unfortunate since I'm using a 144hz monitor :D

I have to admit that I just realised that I haven't really played CS:GO much since switching to Manjaro a few weeks ago (was on several Ubuntu-Distros before) and now it seems fine. sorry for that!

Yeah, I had so many bizarre gaming issues in the past that now, on Manjaro and with its frequently updated kernels and drivers, just don't happen any more. Manjaro is a terrific distro for gaming...Well to me the performance is on par... Maybe you have a compositor issue?

Yeah since the release of Shattered Web and the new agent skins, CS:GO got a lot more players, queue times are a lot shorter then before this event. Although the number of cheaters rose with it also, it still makes a lot of fun. Even as a CS Beta 0.1 veteran ;)
