Another small release in terms of noted changes but still an interesting one, with today seeing Proton 5.0-3 for Steam Play being made available.

For those who really can't wait for the upcoming Linux release of Metro Exodus, you can now run it in Proton in the Direct3D 12 mode. Nice to see support for that making it in so quickly and it will be interesting to see how it fares against the aforementioned Linux release.

The rest of this release are bug fixes, with the major fix being a "high polling rate mouse regression" I saw a number of complaints on so Proton 5.0-3 should behave a bit better. On top of that there's also a fix for crashing launches with both The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners and eFootball PES 2020 plus Automobilista being unable to load some assets also being fixed up.

You can see the full Proton changelog here.

If you don't see it turn up yet in your Steam client, you can try restarting as that usually gets it to appear and make sure you have Proton 5.0 installed in the Tools section of Steam.

Just a little point, but when you say

Quotemake sure you have Proton 5.0 installed in the Tools section of Steam

...well, I don't think that exists any more. You can still filter by "tools", but there's no section as such, so there's no way to install tools directly.

[Edit: So, after experimenting and googling, it turns out that you just can't "browse" tools anymore, but you can still type "proton" into your search bar, you'll still see results appearing, even if you haven't actually ticked "tools" in your filter. So tools still exist, you just have to know their name to install them - try searching "sdk" or "server" for more examples]

Skyrim in windowed mode is still broken with this release. :-( Only possible workaround consists in switching back to Proton 4.11 for Skyrim.

In full screen it does work however, but in that case it won't survive to Alt-Tab.

1. Check Tools filter
2. uncheck show only installed games filter
3. browse tools in the uncategorized section

Good shout. Very muddy for me because I have hundreds of uncategorised games, so I didn't notice that the servers/sdks were mixed in there. I also use "recent" view by default and had to collapse many, many months/years to get to the bottom of the list!

Quoting: PatolaCan't run Metro Exodus in 5.0.3. Added my attempts in the bug report. Anyone was able to do it?
Yep, working fine on my end

tried PES 2020 before, the game runs fine, but I couldn't get online with it.

Although fully updated, I can only see 5.0-2 in Steam -> Settings -> Steam Play. Can anyone actually see 5.0-3?

Wait a bit and restart Steam. I see 5.0.3.
